At Big Grove Tavern, we celebrate the true sense of the word tavern. The heart and soul of a community, the tavern is a warm and welcoming place bringing together both visitors and locals. Our mission is to source local and farm fresh ingredients whenever possible - not only to create delicious dishes, but to also help support our neighbors. Our name comes from a large stand of trees called, "The Big Grove," which offered shelter from the wide open prairie skies during the earliest days of our community. Now known as Busey Woods, you can still see the remnant of Big Grove in Urbana today. Whether you're from Champaign, Urbana, the University, the surrounding towns or a visitor -ALL are welcome at Big Grove. Eat, drink and think local.

SPICY
Sometimes we can’t stop thinking about certain kinds of food until we’ve eaten them. I expect nothing from travern food but turn out Perfect Monday dinner. Really good food items here I can say, from mild to spicy and interesting cocktails.Hummus is our favorite appetizer here. It’s a perfect combination of flavors and varieties, and fun to eat because of all the textures it has from the vegetables.Steak and truffle fries was simple but so good, perfect temp and seasoning.Seafood linguine pasta was something different from spicy soy chili sauce.Great cocktails from knowledgeable Bartender also make this dinner even better. Try simple rum old fashion made from Diplomatico rum.

To me, it is a fancy restaurant in Champaign downtown. The vibe was good enough to eat out with my friends at Friday night, but it would be a bit loud for dating.The menus are creative. I did not try that many; but I can say the taste is just good not super in general. I can recommend Mushroom Risotto. The Chicken Mole which my friend had looked interesting. One down side is the price. An Entree begins at 16 and can go easily over 20 per dish.If I come again, it would be because of the vibe not for the food.

food was superb both times i've been. my only issue is the same that i have with a lot of the restaurants downtown; unless you personally know the front of house member attending to your party, you are greeted with an industrial informal attitude that is not very welcoming. it's always been a little unsettling as a foodie to interact with robots disguised as my servers but it's my only complaint usually at these places!
