It's a bit daunting trying to find your way around. Signage is a bit confusing at first. The food court seems to be the hardest to find signs that point you in the right direction. Other than that it is a great old building that has been restored nicely. A big plus is the Metropolitan Lounge for Amtrak Business Class or Sleeper Car guest. Very modern and comfortable.

What kind of train station stops boarding 5 minutes ahead of departure?! I had 3 meetings in Milwaukee and arrived to platform 4 minutes before scheduled departure and the woman wouldn’t allow me to board the train that was 50 feet away. I take trains (both Amtrak and commuter) in Philadelphia, New York, and DC all of the time and can show up 1 minute before departure no problem. Union station in Chicago SUCKS.

This place is absolutely beautiful! Architecture is incredible! For $25 they hold your luggage, offer showers, refreshments and a lounge area during your layover. And you also are able to board first! Only thing- you have to speak very quietly or you will be asked to lower your voice.... 😁😉

Large and beautiful train station in Chicago. Was here for several hours for a layover, traveling alone. All the staff I encountered made my wait comfortable. There is a great selection of cafes, restaurants, and little shops within the station to help pass the time and get a bite to eat. The architecture at this station is stunning!

A bit confusing after the first couple times through, but most of the large train stations can be that way. The Great hall is beautiful, well lit and has plenty of seating. Station is in a great location, easy access to all of downtown Chicago.

People are great but be aware of your surroundings, there's always someone trying to pull a fast one.

It was clean and the signs were easy to follow to where I needed to go. The great hall is also a beautiful piece of architecture so make sure you stop by and enjoy that.

Visiting Union station for first time and it has been a very good experience. All the tracks are easily accessible and very well marked. Enough train information display boards. A good food court. The main hall is beautiful decorated for holidays.

This Central Railway is amazing not only because of its history but also because of the number of people who daily pass through this Central! and see the wonderful 🇺🇸 of the United States of America makes it an Icon! I hope they do not remove it again! If you are a tourist, you must come see it or simply come to know all the connections that this Central has with all the states of America the Great.

Questions & Answers

Yes There Are Plenty....Very Large And Small

No....unfortunately lockers are something that went away nationwide after 9/11.....pack lite or dont bring anything at all....you will be unencumbered and free to roam.

At Noontime ~ Always best to Check in 2 Hours Early!!!

Yes. Amtrak owns the station as a matter of fact although Metra is the primary tenant. It is all the same station.

What Time does this train leaves Chicago

Consider paying $20 to get into the Legacy club. They will hold your bags, and in addition you will have a comfortable waiting room, complimentary snacks and beverages, a cleaner restroom and priority boarding on your next train. Thus far this service is only in Chicago, and it makes Union Station very welcoming. You must pay the fee with a credit card (no cash) and show your ticket.

The cheapest way is to take the CTA Blue line from Clinton (south of here) to O'Hare. You can also take Metra's North Central Service line to O'Hare transfer on the weekdays and take O'Hare airport transit (this way is the fastest but more complicated). Do that if you already have a valid Metra ticket. Otherwise, take the CTA Blue line.

Blue line on Clinton or red line on state.

Ask the ticket agent that's two states away
