Milk Bar Mini: Harvard Square

About

Milk Bar is a sweet (and occasionally savory) shop that's been quietly shaking up the dessert scene since 2008. Bon Appetit magazine called us "one of the most exciting bakeries in the country." But you can literally just call us Milk Bar. Founded by James Beard award-winning pastry chef Christina Tosi, Milk Bar is known for inventing: the Compost Cookie®, layer cakes with unfrosted sides, Cereal Milk™ Soft Serve, Milk Bar Pie the first flip phone and shoulder pads (Ok, technically those last two weren't us). Snag some standout treats and skip off to your next adventure.

I love the milk bar, it’s exactly what it sets out to be. An enjoyable little shop, with great desserts. Yes it’s expensive, but where else can you get cereal milk ice cream with delicious pieces of cake batter. Plus they really do make a good birthday cake. It’s not as big as a flagship, but the selection holds up, and they have extremely nice people working the counter. Go and enjoy.

Came here around dinner time, place gets packed. There are separate lines for pizza and dessert. Pizza line is pretty sure, they have 6 different personal pizzas or you can make your own. It comes out pretty quick less than 5 mins. I tried the Maverick which is meat lovers and I found it delicious! Nice thin crust and great toppings. If starving might not fill you up.For dessert the ice cream was tasty. They put cereal on it (corn flakes I think) which gets some getting used to initially. They give you a decent portion with lots of toppings. The craft drinks were unique. I think my favs after trying them all were the lemonade one and passion fruit one.

Desserts are fun but pricey. Had high hopes for the cake truffles, but they were a little too sweet, but not bad. The cereal milk ice cream made for a pretty picture, but was personally not my favorite as it tasted very milky. Not Milk Bar's fault though, since the cereal milk soft serve does come as advertised (supposed to taste like the milk left after you finish the cereal in the bowl--which it does). So if you like cereal milk in real life, you'll probably like the soft serve.

Questions & Answers

I actually just called. They do...for anyone else wondering.

I don't believe so.

A pre-order is usually the better a way to go. That way, you can get the cake you want as opposed to relying on chance.

Milk Bar is a bakery. They have cookies, truffles, pies, cakes and soft serve.
