Lavash (Armenian: լավաշ, Azerbaijani: lavaş, Persian: لواش, Turkish: Lavaş) is a thin, flat, flexible and soft bread that originally comes from Armenia. [1] Lavash has been eaten for centuries in Armenia, Turkey, Georgia and Iran, but is now available in many countries. [2] [3] [4] It is made with flour, yeast, water and salt. The thickness of the bread is determined by rolling out, traditionally the dough for Lavash is rolled up and flattened against the hot wall of a wood oven or a tandoor. This method of baking is still used in Iran, Afghanistan, Azerbaijan, Armenia, Georgia and the United States. The dough is sometimes sprinkled with sesame seeds or poppy seeds before baking.
