One of the best dinners of the last few months. High quality food on very normal prices. Small variety of dishes which makes choice easier. Southern comfort food. The desserts were spectacular. Local and cozy.

This restaurant is amazing, the service is exceptional!! The fried green tomatoes is a must for a starter. The pork chop is so juicy and big enough to share, the short ribs are so tender and flavorful. The collard greens is a must, I am not a big fan of greens but I can eat the greens at Virtue everyday. The flavor is divine. The justify cocktail is a nice refreshing drink. Lastly the banana pudding is a nice end to an amazing meal.

Very clean. 3.5-4 star cuisine, soul infusion...very impressive presentations of dishes and moderately attentive staff. Great bar, darkly lit at night so if vision impaired bring glasses. Not many items of vegan or dairy free variety. Excellent decor.

We visited Virtue because I saw Erik on “Check Please” and felt very proud of this extraordinary black chef and all that he does mentoring aspiring chefs of the future. Our party was very impressed with the ambiance and exceptional customer service. The other patrons consisted of various cultures and a wide range of ages. The wait staff served our meals as a team, meaning all courses were brought to our table hot and at the same time. Our only surprise was the cost and portion size of each menu item, still we were exceptionally happy to support Erik and pray that Virtue will offer more lower priced/special menu items, maybe on a certain day and time and I will definitely frequent often .

I really liked this place. It can be a little crowded and loud. (I got the back of my head bumped by someone but I wasn't sure if it was staff coming from the back or another customer walking through.) Get the collard greens, shrimp and grits, green tomatoes, and coconut mousse desert. The ham and hoghead cheese plate was pretty good too. The honey butter on the cornbread was an interesting combo, like if regular corn bread and jiffy cornbread had a baby. If I'm in the area this place would be considered again.

Hands down, one of the best restaurants in Chicago. If you like true gourmet Southern cuisine, this place is a must. Erick Williams is a true artist. The NYE five course meal is perfect, especially with someone special. Service is top notch as well. Hyde Park has truly arrived with Virtue.

What an amazing place in Hyde Park! Come here for some Southern inspired food and a romantic environment. First timers should definitely try the blackened catfish and pair it with a side of delicious cornbread and yummy Mac and cheese! The shrimp and grits were also very tasty.

Great food but bad service. If you’re looking for a fine dining experience, this isn’t it. Waiter never said “excuse me”, just kept reaching around all of us. His demeanor wasn’t pleasant. He needed a different system for taking our orders as he was scrambling through 3 different sheets of paper trying to figure out what he wrote down and ended up missing several food items. Then he sent the manager to kick our group out because we were past time for the table, but the only reason we were still sitting there was because we were waiting on the dessert the server said was coming out. I would’ve preferred to just have the young man who seemed to be going through training with the server as he was much friendlier with clearly some prior experience in dining. If you just want good food and don’t care about the frills, then you’ll have a great time here.

The food was good, the staff was great...attentive & friendly! The atmosphere was nice and everyone seem to be enjoying themselves despite how crowded it was. I enjoyed my first visit.... looking forward to future visits!

Great brunch! We'd been here for dinner before, but never had the brunch. First off, I recommend checking your coat. It's free and the dining room is tight with little hanging space. We had the cinnamon roll and coffee cake to start. Cinnamon roll was delicious, icing not overly sweet, coffee cake was warm in the middle. This was the Sunday after Valentine's day, so my girl had a mimosa and I had the Bloody Mary. The Mary has hot sauce and Cajun kind of spices in it. Unique and good. I had the brioche and ham for my main course and she had the biscuits and gravy. The ham brioche is out of this world and the gravy had shredded smoked turkey in it. We'll definitely be back.

Lovely meal and service at Virtue, as expected. Although crowded, my friends and I were able to get a table without a reservation late Sunday night. Cocktails were great, refreshing and strong (I highly recommend Justify and Georgia Peach). For food, a couple of us got appetizers (called small rations on the menu) and a couple got entrees. The appetizers are great for sharing but can be enough as a small dinner entree. Everything we tried--the gumbo, green tomatoes, pork chop (huge!), and short ribs (so tender!) were cooked perfectly and presented beautifully. Service was warm and friendly, and I appreciated that they brought everything out at the same time for us. The ambiance is elevated but still has a local neighborhood feel to it, and the decor feels both rustic and posh. Virtue is truly a gem in Hyde Park and I'll be back for more!

A friend of my mine had a birthday dinner at virtue. It was a great time. I had the gumbo and cornbread. The cornbread was delicious. The gumbo was just enough (could have used more rice). The ambiance was idea for a celebration. I gave it 4 stars instead of 5 because the appetizer menu was a little more appealing than the main course menu.

Southern menu. The greens were awesome. The Mac and cheese was awesome. The corn bread was good but average. The chicken was awesome. The brisket was awesome. The salmon was good but a little bit too "fishy". Spent about $100. Service was great. Get reservations since the place is becoming more popular since the chef has gained widespread acclaim through popular magazines.

The service & food was delicious. We had the fried green tomatoes for an appetizer & it was a lovely treat. Red beans & rice & catfish was the main entree, large enough to share so we did. Rose' was the cocktail of choice & it too was great. Overall great experience, awesome food just a lil pricey. I will return
