I do not think so.
I have never heard the term 'the awful waffle'. But I think it's because the workers there are just ordinary, hardworking people. It's not a glamorous job they are doing, it's just ordinary. They take customer's orders and they clean off tables. They work their hours and they go home. And since they are open 24 hours, customers often come in and see them at their worst. That's where I think the 'bad reputation' comes in. I myself go frequently and have enjoyed the food and the service.
