A excellent choice for Mexican food in the Carmel area. The staff was friendly and attentive, asking if I wanted more chips and salsa before the first ran out. My wife and I both enjoyed out meals.

Good food and micheladas with Bohemia beer! Good salsa also! A must visit after a hike at Point Lobos

My husband and I just moved to Carmel from Los Angeles. We decided to walk in today about 2:00 pm and give it a try. The food was decent (not authentic Mexican food. American Mexican food). However, Ruben the waiter could not have been more RUDE to us. I mean wow. He was rude to everyone including a father and infant waiting for a table. I’m a former waitress so for me, it was pretty disgusting as to how VERY rude he was. He even looked mad. Bad day maybe? Hate your job? NO excuse! I didn’t take it personal but let’s just say we decided to take our food to go instead because he sucked all of the good energy out of the restaurant. Shame on management for noticing. It was obvious. As new residents of the neighborhood, we will never walk in here again.

Chips and salsa showed up before we ordered, and the salsa was exceptionally good as were the chips. Guacamole was fresh, tasty, made tableside and chips perfect. Food was amazing!! Super tasty!!!! Margaritas were up there at very very good! Service was exceptionally good! Wish I had one of these in my town! I give it 5 stars!

Had a quick lunch at Villa Sombreros and ordered the Chicken Mole Taquitos, the dish was okay, but a bit too much sour cream for my taste plus the Guacamole did not convince me.

We picked this place because we were craving Mexican food. When we arrived and looked at the menu, we thought we went to the wrong restaurant (completely different international dishes). Server explained that it changed ownership 3 days ago. The food was not good- salsa was basically just chopped tomatoes. The Roasted Beets salad was beets from a can (server and owner admitted and apologized for it). Steak taco was a bit salty with beans and rice (which was a strange yellow rice with carrots). The only decent thing was the guacamole. The staff was very friendly and the owner apologized multiple times. I think they have growing pains and may take time to be decent. It is not a Mexican restaurant.

Mediocre food and service. Zero ambience. Could be great if soulful effort put forth worthy of 25 bucks a plate but it's just not there.

Our server, Juan was awesome. The food , unfortunately is a different story. We ordered two vegetarian meals. The Tostado was puffy and overcooked. The content was very small and some of the ingredients were unrecognizable. The other entree was basically inedible, cactus something or other. The 5-star reviews must be from customers ordering meat dishes. We had two Spanish sparkling wines, and one bottled beer. Our check was $63. Overpriced? Definitely. Our one-star is for our server, Juan. There are many traditional Mexican restaurants in this area that offer delicious, less expensive dishes.. Please visit them, and save your money.

I'm always a little scared to try Mexican food in coastal towns like this. I've never liked any of them, even if the ratings are good. Growing up in the central valley we know good Mexican food. This was really good. Husband got a margarita and I got a Paloma, they weren't great. They steak fajitas were really good as well as the enchiladas. Salsa was great also. You can always tell if the food is going to be good by tasting the salsa. We will definitely come back.

Really great food!! Home made chips and salsa were amazing and very awesome nachos! The tacos were delicious esp the puerto nueva shrimp tacos. Also very good rice :) Only negative was the margaritas - a little bitter.

We came expecting Mexican style dining. It was definitely not that. The food was barely edible, and I eat pretty much anything.

We vacationed in Carmel recently and ate dinner here - the food was great! What made it extra special was the kind, attentive, and friendly service. You could tell the folks who worked there took pride in their food and the atmosphere of the restaurant. I saw a server bring over a candle centerpiece for a couple who was eating at the bar - it was a simple gesture but it was very sweet!

I ate at the Villa Sombreros during a recent business trip, we were a party of 8 and it was a bit late but the easily accomodate to serve us dinner. Food was good, really tasty and more than sufficient in quantity. Staff was friendly and attentive. A good place to have a good dinner.
