Vera Mae's Bistro

Opening its doors in 1999, Vera Mae’s began its story as a lunch delivery and catering business through its South Walnut street storefront in downtown Muncie. Owner Kent Shuff pioneered the revitalization of Muncie’s historical district and later expanded the restaurant in 2002. Formerly Ballard Hardware, Kent and co-owner and partner, Steve Fennimore created the Ballaird Hall, increasing the original Bistro from 54 seats to 210 seats. Come explore the living history of a Midwestern staple. On our walls you will find part namesake, Vera Yates (Kent's Grandmother) at her restaurant and gas station, along with David Letterman on an evening out. Everything has a story as the modern local art and historic architectural elements combine for an intoxicating evening of hand-crafted cuisine and delectable drinks.

Vera Mae's is Muncie's favorite fine dining establishment. Every dining experience here entails professional, courteous wait staff, and delectable cuisine. The portions are generous, yet not over the top, as quality triumphs over quantity. Lunch service is prompt, with an appealing menu of salads, sandwiches, entree's, and a daily quiche. Dinner is always a memorable and delightful occasion. It is appropriate to come here for a drink as Vera Mae's has the most talented and engaging bartenders who are well-versed in their craft, and have extensive selection of beverages for your enjoyment.

I really like the clean but vintage look of Vera Mae's. Modern comfort in a nostalgic environment is very appealing. Our host and server were excellent and very pleasant. Steaks were cooked exactly to request. People in our party also raved about the fish and chicken selections. I was a little puzzled at how they ran out of the days vegetable by 630, but fortunately the substitution was acceptable. Plenty of on street parking in the area.

We were fortunate to dine the last weekend you were open prior to the shut down caused by the Chinese Communist Dictatorship Virus. As usual, the food and service was the very best. We await your grand re-opening, which can't come soon enough!
