Truman's Diner

Came in excited about a new place to have brunch. Server told us they were out of champagne . There were about 5 people in the place. Ordered chicken and waffles at the request of our server. Waited FOREVER, finally came, expecting it to be piping hot chicken, but no. It had to have been sitting for 10 minutes. Extremely dry, no seasoning at all. Cold syrup. Sorry, won't be coming back. Oh, and paid our check, added $1.85 to the check for using a credit card.

Nice atmosphere. Ordered the cheeseburger. It was not good. Very small and overcooked. The meat was very tough. Fries were ok. Needed to be cooked just a tad bit longer to make them a bit crisper (my preference). The price was way too high for what I got. What I got was a $5.00 meal at best and maybe not that. Owner said they were still tweaking things so I will try them again.

Great concept and I hope to see the kinks worked out. My experience was not the best but I may give it a second try in a few months. The first thing I noticed was the price, it was very high (especially for the quality). They also were out of quite a bit. My meal came out ice cold, asked for a replacement meal and it was missing the side. We chose to pay and leave. Upon leaving we asked the server about the bread pudding and the response was "we have bread pudding?"... A few improvements to the menu, service and quality/preparation of food and this could be a hit.

Absolutely amazing place. The food was great and reasonably priced. Cool old time diner feel and the service was very good considering how busy they were. Definitely a must go!

The server we had was great at keeping our drinks filled and taking our orders. The only problem we had was the food. The fried chicken was overcooked and mostly dry. The rice was under cooked and still hard. The macaroni and cheese was good and I was surprised at how good the cornbread muffin was. It was moist and delicious.I would like to try the breakfast here.We were told that the menu at the time is limited and will be expanded. The daily specials were listed on the board at the front of the business and all appeared to something worth trying.

Beer braised brats. While the dish, itself, was full of flavor, I really did not care much for the variety of brat. I know brats come in different “flavors,” so maybe a different variety should be considered (?). Then again, maybe I’m spoiled. My first introduction to brats was one that had apples in it.

Their fried chicken sandwich is bigger and better than Chick-fil-A's at about the same price. The ice cream is great. Try the mint chocolate chip. The servers are pretty cool too...

Stopped in for lunch today, and it was delicious. We had the cheesesteak and some cheese curds, and both were great. I was a problem child, and spilled ice cream on the floor, and Bill wouldn’t even let me clean up my own mess. He’s so pleasant to be around, and has created a wonderful diner, that’s high on both flavor and charm. Truman’s is definitely a top rated downtown lunch option, because the food is delicious at great prices, and it’s centrally located and within walking distance to everything. One of Truman’s best features is the turn around time. We were able to walk there, order, eat, chat, visit, pay out, and walk back to the office, well within our allotted lunch hour. Truman’s is a gem.

Another great food space for downtown Mobile! They open for breakfast at 7 Monday through Friday and close at 2:30. Great selection of grab and go items for those in a hurry on the way to work or to do a brown bag to take to the park. They have nice outdoor seating, but the vaulted skylight in the back has lots of natural light on those rainy days when you need to stay inside. Cammie's Old Dutch makes two unique ice creams just for them and some other delicious flavors too. Terrific desserts too! The entree portions are ample, and while flavorful, not overseasoned. I love the Philly cheese steak, but the pork belly and brisket sandwiches are great too.

It is a diner. It has hot food. I had their "version" of Poutine (fries w cheese and gravy). Shredded mozzarella cheese.... sigh. Enjoy it for what it is.

Quaint, quiet, great service and delicious food. I will definitely be back on my lunch break in the future!

Had talked about going here since it opened and finally had the chance to go, it was excellent! I had the cheese steak which I must say was the best I've had downtown, the po boy bread is top notch and the grilled steak, veggies and cheese were very flavorful. And to our waitress, you were great and very friendly. To the owner, thank you for asking how everything was, it shows you care about your customers. We will definitely be back.

Great new restaurant downtown. Great food and great service. Keep up the good work.
