The Spaniard

About

Opened in 2017, The Spaniard is a West Village bar serving fine food, strong drinks and plentiful whiskey, inspired by classic New York bars like Keens, Old Town Bar and PJ Clarke's -- spots that marry a timeless vibe and old school service. The bar's spirits list features 100 whiskies, over half of them Scotch, sourced from around the world, and Chef PJ Calapa's excellent bar food is the perfect accompaniment to the many, and varied, creative cocktails. The New York Times calls it a bar with "serious food," and New York Magazine lauds the bar's patty melt and "well-curated house selection of more than 100 whiskeys" in its "Where to Eat 2018" feature. Its extraordinary style and design has been praised in publications such as T: The New York Times Style Magazine and Surface, and Vogue names it as the West Village’s best spot for a stiff drink.

Most of the time a good crowd, staff not the best and pretty expensive even for NYC. $9 for the cheapest beer!

Service was-horrible. Brunch menu is eggs all day or a burger. Portions were small. If you serve a burger without fries you should go to jail. Staff was arrogant and obnoxious. Stories of what went down are inappropriate for the Google community. P.S. The fries were amateur.

We stopped here for drinks before dinner so I cannot really comment on the food, aside from it looked and smelled delicious. Great whiskey selection and great drink menu. My only complaint is that it can get VERY crowded and loud, making it difficult to talk to people.
