Outstanding down home cooking with generous portions, too. We can share one dinner meal with dessert and are overfilled when we leave. The staff are friendly as though you are a guest in their home. The relics/decor are very interesting. During daylight hours, walking around the grounds & reading historical markers is fun.

I've been coming to the Smokestack periodically for 20 years. It has never disappointed. Great food and historic atmosphere. I recommend the meatloaf. It's super. Onion rings are good, too. Top it off with homemade buttermilk pie. Great stop on IH20. Check it out.

Dinner and history combine at the Smokestack. Located off I-20 in the remains of the Mercantile of now all but gone Thurber, Texas (population, 5) is this delightful restaurant. The staff is friendly and the portions are huge. Expect to ask for a to go box. There are historical photos on the walls and remains of the town are dotted around the land outside. The parking lot is unpaved but large. Worth the stop. Take time to read the signs and explore the Smokestack and buildings that remain.

We always try to stop here when traveling through. The history if the area is interesting (cafe has photos & you can learn more at the museum across I-20). The menu is robust, the service is friendly, and prices are reasonable. The food is pretty tasty but I found the pie a little heavier than I prefer. Family friendly with outdoor seating and lots to look at.

The food was very good. The service was excellent. The staff kept the new rules as this is the second day after reopening due to Covid 19.

The Smokehouse does not disappoint! If you get the chance, make the stop. It was the meeting place for lunch before my son's wedding. They quickly arranged tables for 16 of us to eat together, the service was on point, and the atmosphere was relaxed. Had we known in advance, we would have held the reception there as well. Perfect little small town secret for I-10 travelers to share! Thank you 😘

Amazing time here. Our family ate here after touring the museum across the interstate. Most of us had the pot pie special and some of the kids had the children's chicken strips. All of it was great. Everyone enjoyed it, will definitely eat there again.
