Fun super dive bar but great location, not crowded, and unique "non-profit"status.

Amazing bar and beer, great atmosphere. A social enterprise using profits to build schools around the world

Cool owner, nice style and atmosphere, quite place to hang out and have a drink or two, the owner helps out underprivileged kids , the moonshine is really delicious

Had a great time here last night even just stopping by to pass some time. Good beer and fantastic atmosphere. They make sure it doesn't lose the charm with the no standing / tv / cell phone rules. Love it! Haven't tried the food but it smelled good.

It's a great place to drink and hang out with friends

The beer here costs as much as at any bar in DC, and part of the profit goes to build schools around the world. It's a win-win proposition. Also, "the rules" - no standing, no yelling, no cell phones - make for a pleasant atmosphere where you can actually have a conversation. The kitchen has a limited selection, but what they make is good.Pay the dollar to touch the cow.

Best customer service and they're building schools for children all over the world from the profits. I really appreciate everything about this bar. One of my favorite. Thanks a lot!

Like their charitable focus on top of having good beers.

My absolute favorite pub in DC--the owner uses the profits to help build schools and provide proper flooring for homes around the world, so you can drink here knowing you're helping a good cause! Definitely get the garlic fava beans with your drink--I want to come back to DC just to get some more to take home. There is also a great/cheap Tuesday steak dinner special here, perfect after a hard day of work!

I don't drink alcohol, but this is one of the few bars I'm fine with going to. It's all about the conversation here- no TVs; no distractions. The owner can seem a bit gruff & indifferent, but he's actually quite friendly & philanthropic. He closes for a month each year so he can help build a school somewhere around the world.

This place is fantastic. It's a quiet, casual island in the middle of the chaos that is U St. They sell a great selection of Belgian beers and house moonshine specials (try the boozy blueberries). It has a funky, off-kilter vibe, epitomized by the series of tongue-in-cheek rules posted around the bar and in the menu. The best part, though, is that they occasionally close for a month at a time! Because they're using the profits from the bar to go build schools on other continents. Get your name on a brick for a donation!

This place is definitely a to-each-his-own kind of establishment. Personally I am fine with the "rules" but I can understand how someone else might find them offensive. You are, after all, the customer, and you are paying for your drinks and food. I do like the social consciousness of the place but I also feel like they could do as much good for humanity without kicking people out of the bar who look at their cell phones. Pro tip: Ask to sit upstairs. It's less crowded.

This is a great bar, that also gives to charity. Quirky atmosphere with great service. Great beer, mulled wine, and funky moonshine without being overpriced!
