The Mariner Bar And Grill

My husband, daughter and I enjoyed a birthday meal at the Mariner on Labour Day weekend and we are already planning a return soon! First, do not let the plain street facade trick you: the stylish-but-easygoing vibe inside and the stunning lake views more than makes up for it. Food was delicious and clearly made with care. In restaurants, it's often the simple things that are the most difficult to get consistently right but the chefs here definitely knew what they were doing! The fries were thin, crispy and perfectly salted (just like you would find them at a French brasserie) and the broth accompanying the steamed mussels was just INSANELY good. Service was attentive and we really felt welcomed by the friendly owners-managers Brandon and Theresa. So do make the drive (from Plattsburgh or elsewhere) and check it out for yourselves if you haven't already. This restaurant is a gem! N.B. If I had to suggest one thing, I guess it would be to consider adding a few more intimate tables to the large 6-person family-style setups. This would be a great spot to visit with a small group or for a special date.

This place has some of the best views of Valcour and lake champlain. Conveniently located on route 9 a few minutes south of plattsburgh. And easily accessible by boat. This place recently reopened after a bad fire. So glad because the food was outstanding! Definitely recommend!

Great food, atmosphere, and employees. Had questions about allergens and the chef came out and talked to us directly. Will be going back!!

These folks are my second family. The ambiance takes us back to the 1920s-1930s. The food and service are stellar. The price point is outstanding for the overall experience. The restaurant is scrupulously spotless. I visit them every week.

Completely unprofessional staff. My husband called the number listed to report that he had misplaced his debit card, and thinks he left it in the check book. Initially he was told to call back at 4 when they opened. He called at 8:45. The gentleman again said he could not help him and was laughing the whole time, and told him to call at 4. Both times it sounded like we were calling someone’s personal cell phone, and the gentleman who answered couldn’t give a care in the world. Completely unacceptable to run a business in this manner.

Had a wonderful dinner last night. This is a gourmet spot just south of Plattsburgh. Great staff and gorgeous location. Be sure to check this place out.

Have eaten there before and quality was better. Wait staff was excellent and attentive, but back of house has to get its act together more. We were supposed to have a a 90 min seating, but did not finish entree within 120 minutes. Coconut Cream Lobster was more watery than last week, and the Beef and fungi in red wine gravy could have used a bit less red pepper flakes. The filet on the other hand was superb, as were the appetizers...Calamari, Mussels, and raw slices of beef with red onions over greens. Luckily for parties after us, we didn't stay for coffee and dessert.

The only reason I did not give a 1 star is because last year in summer of 2021 we went about 10 times and it was awesome for current times… this time, not so much! Sent Poutine back as it was ice cold. Sent back wine for such a poor pour! The first bad pour I chalked up to randomness, the second poor pour I was not about to pay for! 4 of the 8 dinners were piping hot, 4 were not even warm. The food… o ordered the citrus shrimp with risotto special. So you know, I received 3 small sized (not even medium sized!) shrimp on a skewer with a giant bowl full of risotto. The shrimp had no flavor or citrus as described. Those tiny three shrimp cost me $26!!!! Service was poor as well but clearly due to inexperience. We travel by boat from VT, so it is an experience we like to enjoy with several friends. Will not go back this season. Go to Essex NY and spend your money at the old dock! The only thing the Mariner has going for them is the nice renovations and view of Valcour!

Delicious dinner. Had the beef tips with mushrooms and Caesar salad. Waitress was attentive. Service of meal was fast.
