The set up to by beer is really dumb. And everything is over priced. Skip this place

Nice bar came here with work colleges, must purchase beer or cocktail tokens to drink in The Brakeman which was unique!,staff were very attentive and quick to serve but some were lacking enthusiasm.Reason for 3 stars is because we were told we could smoke outside and took our session outside then after 20minutes we were told by a manager that no smoking was allowed anywhere on premises....GET YOUR FACTS STRAIGHT.

Beerhall with a liquor station and a food station. And let me tell you about that food station: Best. Fried. Chicken. Ever! And the sides were outstanding. Make sure you get an order of biscuits "DUNK'D"... you won't regret it! I love the cafeteria style seating too! Super cool place!

Fun place to hangout! Great beer selection and delicious fried chicken sandwiches. It seemed to me like a young professional crowd. Must see new hangout in Downtown. The one thing preventing me from hanging out here longer would be the price.

Very unique place! Garage door windows surround the place. When you walk inside you are transported to an old school (60's) movie theater type place. You have to buy tokens for beer Ktoken shown in the pictures). The inside is really nice. It has a great vibe.

"Chimaek!" Fried Chicken and Beer at The Breakman in downtown Detroit! We enjoyed our first visit last night. Here is how the concept works.1. Purchase tokens from the Token Booth at the front of the bar for $7.00 each. 2. Go to either the Beer Bar or the Cocktail Bar to redeem the token. (Each token can be redeemed for a glass of beer, flight of beer, or cocktail. No need to tip as it is included in the price!) How European!Penny Red's Fried Chicken is available in their own space at the back of the bar if you are feeling peckish. The Gochujang and Spicy Sweet Mustard Sauce were our favorite sauces to accompany the fried chicken.#friedchicken #beer #pennyreds #chimaek #stickyfingers #thebreakman #downtown #detroit #friday #travelingwiththebob

Great beer selection, along with some pretty tasty cocktails. My wife couldn’t stop raving about their frozen Paloma. The fried chicken spot in the back is a must have. Hot and crispy chicken with flaky honey butter biscuits. Wow.

Bouncer didn't let me in because I had an accent. I was sober and he claimed I was drunk just because english is not my first language, what a joke. Never going back to this place, racism is never okay.

Penny Red's has AMAZING CHICKEN! It's attached to the Brakeman which has great table games( beer pong, jenga, etc.) and libations. Tv's all over, great place to hang out

Very interesting bar indeed! They operate on a no tipping policy but that doesn't stop them from guaranteeing a very solid cocktail and great selection of beer. Enticing subway tile interior with close access to the belt for all the bar hoppers. Though it may appear that they do not offer food, just walk on over to the back corners and there is a little spot within the building that serves quality classic buckets of chicken!

The chicken sandwich I got from Penny Red’s next door was excellent. The place also was well decorated and designed. That said I was expecting an environment closer to Shipping Company. It was overly crowded and more than a bit noisy had kind of a club vibe. The drink selection also was so-so and a little pricey for what they’re offering. If you’re going out on a weekend with a group or before a game, it’s a good somewhat affordable option(no cover). I can’t really recommend just going by for dinner or for a date.Update went a second time before a concert last Saturday. The environment was considerably less hectic and we were able to get our food quickly. The fried chicken and sides were great again and there were generous portions. The second trip definitely made me more likely to come back especially if I'm in a situation where time is an issue.
