Teixeira's Bakery

Not only is this the best Portuguese bakery in Newark, it's better than most in Lisbon. Cherish this gem while you are still alive, people. Pastel de nata belem is a 'best in Newark' and one of the few remaining places still making good ones. We had two pasteis, as well as "rosca minhota' (my second-favorite pastry), with a 'galao' fancy espresso and milk drink; two large homemade vegetable soups (on Sundays), a buttered melhada roll, and also a fresh loaf of hearty 'mafra pequeno' bread which they sliced for us, with tax, to eat in their lovely shop, for under $15. Help! They've been robbed!

A game of five store because the food is good ham and cheese toasted is excellent. And I have awesome chicken soup. The one bad thing the parking's hard over there. And the service they are so so slow the line goes out the door.
