Sweet Potatoes

Visiting from San Diego and went out for a date night. The ambiance was warm and welcoming. People were laughing, smiling, and focused on the food in front of them. Staff were friendly; offering jokes, compliments, and and the occasional "y'all good?" Making sure we had everything we needed. For appetizers we had collard green dip, a spin-off of spinach artichoke dip, and the sweet potato biscuits. Both are a 5 out of 5 rating. For the main course we had a full rack of ribs and the fried chicken dinner. I'm a big guy, roughly 270 pounds, and I was unable to finish my 18 bone count pork ribs. The ribs fell off the bone! I cried a little. I knew about halfway in, the "itis" would kick in but I didn't care. My wife's fried chicken was crispy, crunchy, and duh freaking licious!

If you are searching for southern comfort food this is where you need to go. I got the shrimp and grits and it was delicious. It is a rare sight to not see Sweet Potatoes busy. There is outdoor seating available as well.

Had dinner at Sweet Potatoes with family over the holidays. Food was, words can't describe how delicious everything was. We had a party of six and everything was so good. Appetizer along with the entrees were delicious. Try and save room for dessert, their sweet potato pie was outstanding.

Overall: Great Place for Southern FoodiesThe Food: Super High quality ingredients; thoughtfully prepared. Sweet potato cornbread skillet is a MUST! The only negative is that they are pretty snobby about substitutions, such as changing out the cheese on a turkey burger from provolone to cheddar. That was a no-go.The Staff: I’m pretty sure I had a new person so I’m going to grant Grace here.The Building and Decor: Good vibe.

Excellent food and friendly, courteous service. I enjoyed the jazzy vibe. The sweet potato cornbread with honey ginger butter was warm and tasty. The steak bites and gravy bowl was savory and filling. Delicious!

My meal had some positives and negatives. The side salad was a solid 5 stars but the Fried Chicken and Yam Mash could have been better. The Yam Mash was hot and buttery delicious but the Fried Chicken was a little bit of a disappointment - overcooked and dry it brought down their 5 star score to a 4 star.

You know it’s a great restaurant when you always have to wait for seats to open up, and the wait is worth it. True southern dishes with great flavors. I especially enjoy the Shrimp & Grits as well as their Chicken & Waffles. They also have a full bar with an awesome selection. Parking can be a challenge and waiting area is small.

This place is ahhmazing! I haven't been disappointed yet. Full disclosure, I have only gone twice, but each time the service and taste did not disappoint. Plan to go again when feasible and try another delicious option! Thank you, Fred for telling us about the weekly specials. He had no idea we were from out of town a bit. Will always go back when in the area as long as the doors are open!

Food was great. Amazing actually. Nice music, nice atmosphere, but the service was awful. She took our drink order then our food order, then we didn't see our waitress again until we flagged her down for the bill. I had to ask other servers for extra things we needed. Please retrain your servers then it would be 5 stars.

Service was amazing. Food was even better. Amazing is all I can say the food was too notch. It started with the tomato soup which was so perfectly put together and seasoned perfectly. I then ordered the spaghetti with a drawl as my main dish it is by far one of the best dishes I have had in a long time. It had so many different flavor profiles every bite was a new journey. One that you never wanted to end. This is one of the few places that needs an extra star.

Great food, and staff. Food came quickly hot, fresh, and seasoned. I had the smothered chicken over rice and it was fabulous. My husband had Creole spaghetti and it was delicious. Large servings, be prepared for leftovers. The cornbread is served hot and made to order. Very close to the Convention Center.

As other reveiwers correctly say, very tasty food. Unfortunately, at least one waiter doesn't understand the importance of not poisoning customers who explicitly state that there are certain foods that they absolutely can not eat. I know that my dietary restrictions mean that many foods will be off menu, but most places can accomodate me me somehow. I ask every restaurant for food that won't poison me, stating which ingredient I can not touch. Sweet potatoes isn't very good at checking that certain ingredients are not their in dishes, or just assumes that I won't notice because it is powdered/mushed or whatever.

Haven’t been here in a while but glad I came back. Took the fam out for a Saturday lunch, food was tasty as always and service friendly and attentive. All plates came back clean. My only complaint... service was a bit too much at time, they could have toned it back but I rather have too much service then not enough. We got the catfish (Phil’s special I think) and the mambo chicken. So tasty!

An absolutely delicious meal with so many tempting menu options, it was difficult to choose! The cornbread was something not to miss, and the service was excellent. Our group was in town for our annual Christmas trip to Old Salem, and I am extremely thankful that our original dinner plans fell through. This became one of the best parts of our trip!
