SUGARFISH by sushi nozawa

One thing I thought was really unique about this place was how fat some of the nigiri pieces were. I've never seen nigiri cut like that before but I appreciated it nonetheless because they were so big. I really liked the salmon sashimi in ponzu sauce. It was smooth and citrusy. The only downside was that some pieces where the rice was pre seasoned with soy sauce tended to fall apart which made it a bit of a struggle to eat. Either way it was delicious. One huge perk is that if you eat here twice before your bday you can get a free meal on your bday which I think is such a steal. I went around five and it was almost packed. They don't take reservations so I recommend coming early. By the time I finished eating, the whole waiting area was packed so brace yourself if you're coming at a busy time. I would definitely come back especially since you don't have to break the bank to eat here.

Atmosphere was pretty good for young people. Food was just ok for the price. I assume a new cook cut the fish and cooked the rice. It was a busy day with many customers so the rice was still hot for the sushi. Maybe they didn’t have time to prepare sushi rice with proper temperature. Any staff didn’t take used plates every time even though there were no space for the new plates. The table was very small for 3. Service was very awkward.

Dimly lit ambience and simple yet quality sushi. The menu makes it easy to order. Reasonably priced set meals and sushi a la carte are both available. The fish is superb and fresh. The rice is served warm. Added bonus: no need to tip! Would gladly return.

I have been wanting to try out this sushi spot for a while, we finally got to go during lunch time. They do not take reservation, which makes it a bit difficult, especially since this is a popular spot. We got there after the lunch rush, so we didn’t have to wait too long before we got a table. We got there after the lunch rush, it was still very busy! Most of the tables were occupied, we were very lucky to get a table quickly. As for food, we were interested in their Omakase menu. They have three kinds of Omakase, and we went with the middle one called “Trust Me”. This one is eight-course meal, most of them sushi pieces. It comes with Organic Edamame, Tuna Sashimi, Albacore Sushi, Salmon Sushi, Yellowtail Sushi, Sea Bass Sushi, Toro Hand Roll and Blue Crab Hand Roll. The portion is rather small, but this place is definitely quality over quantity. And we do value quality more than the quantity for sure. Each item was well crafted, high quality, tasty and most of them just melt in your mouth! The service was really great, polite and friendly. They gave us good information on the menu and dishes with a warm smile. And what is most surprising, they have NO tipping policy! The hospitality is included in the price, and yet, the service level is great. We had a really nice lunch here, my expectation was high and they did not disappoint.

I have been coming here frequently since last year and have been at this location and the one closer to the West Village. I like this location the best. Normally, it is a 5/5 for everything but the reason why I took away a star is because, when I went there today, the ponzu-based nigiris had the rice soaked in the ponzu, which made the rice taste like a ball of ponzu and made it very difficult to eat. Other than that, the rest of the dishes were fantastic. My favorite is always the crab hand roll. The hand rolls are the best here.

Update: I came back and tried their "Dont Think, Just Eat", it was very filling, so delicious so I have zero regrets! The pizza sauce is still amazing, just like the last time. Don't ever change... The bay scallops were soooooooo good, I had to order an extra set. I had doubts that the nozawa set was going to fill me up, but it did a good job! The fish was fresh and delightful. The ponzu sauce is liquid gold! Pro tip: no tipping needed here!

Exceptional! We did the Trust Me menu and was very impressed with the rice, presentation, quality and flavor. If I was a resident, this would be a weekly tradition.

So delicious and such a fun experience! Only docking a star because they don’t have gluten free soy sauce, so if you’re gf make sure to bring your own. They’ll also have to serve all your sushi with no sauce if you can’t eat gluten (I was sad to miss out on the yuzu sauce). But the fish is so fresh and delicious and I didn’t miss the sauce too much! Just wish they could take the small step of keeping a bottle of gf soy sauce in the kitchen.

This sushi spot was recommended by my son that is an educated sushi freak and learned to eat unique and special sushi pieces from me. Thumbs up to this small unique spot for great fresh fish and special flavor combinations.

Fish was very fresh and delicious I like that they have set menu when you can try some different dishes not spending too much time to choose The only thing they didnt do reservations, so waiting time was about hour and we weren’t offer any snacks Cozy atmosphere, no loud music, so perfect place for friends/family dinner

Love SUGARFISH. It’s my go to sushi restaurant whenever I have a craving. The food quality is superb and most importantly CONSISTENT. Every time I go I know exactly what I’m going to get and the tasting menus they have are perfect For everyone’s different levels of hunger. You know what you’re getting every time and every time is great.

Great sushi for dine in or takeout. We’ve done both and loved it. Comes in a perfect box. The sushi has been consistent every time. If you want a perfect sushi lunch or dinner on the go this is def the place.

I’ve really enjoyed lunches here with colleagues. The atmosphere is busy but service was prompt and friendly. I do not care for the iced tea but enjoy all the sushi and the edamame. I ordered one of the combination sets and found it was just the right amount to be filling. I liked the cadence of the food coming out of the kitchen. There was hardly any lag between rolls and the food was served to the whole table at once. Would recommend to anyone who likes fresh sushi in a sit down environment.

The omakase is very good. It’s a little on the pricier side but good for a quick celebration or something special. All the sashimi and rolls tasted great.
