100000% yes! I absolutely loved the tacos. The wings were crispy and still moist. The platter was the star of the show. A little taste of everything, my friend and I split everything and we still had to take some home. It was so much food. Loved every bite. Don’t sleep on this place downtown. 🫶🏻

Is this good BBQ for San Diego? Yes. Is it a level of BBQ a lot of Californians haven't had before? Yes. Is it a 5 for BBQ potential? The answer is a definitive no. The Brisket is solid, but the rest is just kind of passable if you've had world class BBQ before. The sides were kind of forgettable to me, and that is a big detractor personally, because if you're going to put the effort in for BBQ then why just have boring sides. About the only thing creative was the beans, and that was just in a different way, and not really these are amazing way. Go visit, have the BBQ, enjoy it, but the next time you are in Texas go reset your BBQ baseline. I wasn't going to post a review, but this is rated 4.9 when I wrote this, and having a 4.9 in its current state is a crime to amazing BBQ.

Service was great we ordered and the food was there within minutes. The servers were very nice and would pass by often asking if we needed anything or picking up dishes they were awesome!! Great food and good drinks i had the pulled pork tv dinner. I tasted the ribs and I loved everything but their bean crack and the ribs were the stars for me. Definitely coming back to try the brisket!! Best Bread pudding and cornbread hands down! Dont forget to order the cider👌🏽👌🏽

Solid BBQ - the namesake Smokin J sandwich was unbelievably tender and flavorful. The Cajun fries were packed with flavor and crispy. The drinks were also reasonably priced

Wow!!! I am a foodie and it I have had a hard time finding the highest and best BBQ in San Diego.. there are a lot of places that give it a good shot, but I can usually find something wrong or a hidden flavor I don’t like, or an dis-satisfactory aftertaste ranging from burnt plastic all the way to visually stimulating but flavorfully bland… not this place !! This is absolute the best BBQ Brisket I have found in a restraunt in San Diego so far.. I got a pound and ate it next door while enjoying orange mind hookah. They delivered it to my table at gran Havana, and it was straight up candy! Wonderful smoke penetration, wonderful crust, trimmed fat cap that was cooked to perfection… next time I’ll try it with warm BBQ sauce instead of cold.. give this place a chance. It was worth the $40.00 and I am so glad to have found it.

Smokin J's BBQ and Taphouse in Gaslamp in San Diego is the WORST BBQ food I've ever had. I ordered pulled pork, mac and cheese, and baked beans. The pulled pork came out cold (like right out of the fridge cold) and had very little flavor. The baked beans are basically chili with a lot of sugar added. The mac and cheese was powdery with a really weird texture and not a good flavor. Iced tea was completely flavorless. Essentially just brown water. The BBQ sauce is like a really runnier version of Sweet Baby Rays. Ketchup was some weird combination of cocktail sauce mixed with BBQ sauce. Customer service was extremely subpar. Really bad experience from the get-go. The host/server person handed us menus and told us to find a table over along the wall. Really weird way to welcome someone in. The place was empty but we had to sit in an awkward spot. The 4.8 rating on Google legitimately makes no sense. Those reviews have to be fake or paid for. This was literally the worst BBQ I've ever had.

The place was almost empty when we walked in around 5:30-6pm. We ordered the TV Dinner Pork Belly. While it tasted good, it was a little too dry for my taste. The amount of the sides were small. I'm not sure if we will visit again.

Tried the 3 x 3 and it was perfection. BBQ sauce is homemade and awesome. Try the pecan pie! Great addition to the Gaslamp.

Wow, amazing BBQ food, they know how to do good BBQ. Great location too, in the heart of Gaslamp, friendly staff and a perfect place for an after work beer.
