Shuhari Matcha Cafe

The staffs are nice but I don't recommend this place to the matcha fans. You will be disappointed. I ordered the soft serve and ceremonial tea. The soft serve was icy, very sweet and doesn't have the strong matcha taste. The ceremonial grade matcha tea was served in a normal cup, very watery, the ratio between matcha and water was wrong. They probably didn't use the correct water temperature 175F. There was no creamy bubble texture in the tea. didn't notice if he used a whisk to whisk to matcha at all. I don't believe it is really ceremonial grade. It is very disappointing given the rating is so high in Yelp, Google and Foursquare.

The soft serve here is the absolute best matcha ice cream I’ve ever had. Will drive far for this place!

The drinks are good. The front desk guy with nails and hair was rude, the tables out back were also very sticky.

Decent dessert place. Nothing out of the ordinary. Would be great if they have something savoy.

Well, I must admit, it's a Matcha Café. My friends wanted to have a Matcha, so the four of us went. I asked the guy who takes the orders if I could have a "Latte Macchiato​". The response was "what's his name" - this guy was in his own film ;-)He did not know what a Latte Macchiato was, fair enough, so he went back to the kitchen, asked - and the confirmation was, yes we can. Then the usual: small or large? I went for the large. So I got a large paper cup - so far for the large. The cup was filled 20% - and it was anything but a latte - for $6.50 plus tax and tip. Guy did not know how to handle credit cards, put them in with the strip on the wrong side. No way to correct, so I gave up and paid cash. I asked​ for a receipt - and got a "gift receipt" with no amounts on them. I am not the kind of guy wishing bad, but sorry, but like this,​ you will not survive on Abbott Kinney.

Matcha everything! Feels like I am back in Asia!! My favorite is the vegan matcha soft serve with red bean topping. I cant eat dairy, but my friends have said that the vegan soft serve ice cream is much more flavorful with stronger matcha than the dairy one. Gluten free baked goods!! Love the back porch seating...surrounded by bamboo! I forget I'm in LA and feel like I am sitting in a natural bamboo forest. 😊 I put 5 stars in the beginning but just changed it after my last 2 experiences there of trying to study at the back. Even though I was outside, the rock music was super loud inside that I couldn't study, even with headphones on. Not as hip as I thought it was.

When I saw Shuhari was near Venice Beach, I decided I had to go right after I visited the actual beach part! I ordered the Matcha Adzuki Parfait and thought it was Instagrammable, I thought it lacked intense matcha flavor. I liked the red bean paste, nuts, berries, and whipped cream, but those were secondary to the matcha itself, which was rather plain. I liked doing work at the window seating--it was neat to people-watch as there were so many different types of people walking by! The interior could've been cleaner. Some of the tables were sticky. Service itself also was lacking--the staff who made and took my order were not very friendly or smiley to customers, but were very friendly and smiley to each other. They struck me as young girls just there for a summer job (even though it was the springtime.)

The girls at the front were really kind and helpful. The matcha was really high quality. They even have a cute outdoor eating area

Soft serve and parfaits are yummy

Had some straight matcha. Tasted great and helped with studying. I enjoyed a wonderful view of dusk falling upon the street from the cafe.

Variety of matcha and green tea drinks and desserts. I got the parfait which was really good and not too sweet. There's a quiet area to sit and relax in the back and get away from the bustle of the street.

The little garden in the back is very cute and cozy.

If you want a good, vegan, ice cream experience down Abbot Kinney avenue, try the matcha ice cream. It’s a refreshing and healthy alternative to the other ice cream shops around here.
