Shield's Restaurant Bar Pizzeria

#DetroitStyle. One of the originators of Detroit Style pizza. Great location on Woodward in the Cultural Center, across from the Detroit Institute of Art. The bar is a great place to hang out and there is terrific light from the windows. The pizza is superb and the wings were very nice as well. I thought the bartender did a great job with our drinks but was also really engaging and funny. Check it out.

Great Detroit Pizza, but is different than Buddy's. Buddy's is lighter, Shields is more filling. Shields feels more modern though, I liked the environment.

Detroit Style Pizza at its Best! Shield's earns my top pick after sampling about a dozen pizzas from Detroit areas restaurants. Yes, even better than Buddy's. Other menu items are also great, and reasonably priced. (I've heard raves about their cheeseburgers, but haven't tried one yet.) The atmosphere at the Woodward location is fantastic: cool Detroit sports memorabilia on the walls, ample televisions to watch your favorite team, superb selection of draft beers on tap, and exceptionally friendly service.
