I had an amazing experience. The food was delicious, great customer service and a beautiful atmosphere. For non meat eaters I recommend the veggie sampler. So many different flavors and options.

Came here because of all the 5 star reviews and I am adding to the perfect record. In a sea of great Ethiopian food these guys stand out. Highly recommend.

Wow! We just ate here tonight and I ran to my computer when we got home to review them because I want the world to know they have to eat here! Best Ethiopian we have had in DC, Denver and many parts of East Africa and by far the best service. The Veggie Sampler is flavorful, delicious and vegan friendly. The lentil sambusas were bigger than usual, extremely fresh and had a great spice level. Its also extremely affordable and to top it off they served a great new Ethippian beer we hadn't heard of - Negus! We will be back.

Came here with my wife on a date night and was pleasantly surprised. The food was delicious and the service was AMAZING. I was skeptical of all the 5 star ratings, but after this experience have to rate it 5 stars myself!

Food was good, service was pleasant, but there were several issues: first of all, nearly everything has the same set of seasonings (onion and jalepeno among other things) and they don't have much of an indication of what's spicy and what isn't, so if you don't like spicy food and/or peppers, this is not the place for you. The other issue is the menu itself. I went with my parents, and their menus had different descriptions of the dishes than mine did, but the same dish names listed, which made it practically impossible to know what we were actually ordering. The drinks menus were also inconsistent, with one having about twice as many beer options than the other, many of which they didn't actually have. We also ended up just ordering what the waitress directed rather than what we had picked for ourselves, so it's a little hard to know how the other food would have been. At any rate, we ended up having a perfectly good meal, but not without considerable confusion and uncertainty.

The owner was very welcoming and we had a great conversation and then food was delicious!

The owner is a great guy and his wife is an amazing cook! The food is incredibly well executed and even well priced for as much as you get. We has the lentil sambusas and the are awesome

What a wonderful experience. We made a reservation about an hour before and the tables were ready and reserved for us when we got there. Half of our party hadn't arrived but they gave us no issues and seated us while we waited. When the rest of our party, they accommodated us and made us feel very comfortable even though we had a lot of kids. The food was amazing. Some of the best kitfo I've ever had. We were there for a while and they never once hassled us. They were very friendly and engaged us in conversation and we're great with the kids. We will definitely be back here for Ethiopian food when we're back in DC, and will definitely be suggesting this to friends coming to DC.

Husband and I happened upon Shebelle after 10pm on a Saturday night, when the neighborhood was jumping. The service, food, and decor were a calm respite to the electric vibe outside. We, like other reviewers, let our server pick the meats on our platter, and discovered some things we really enjoyed and didn't know before (wish I knew their names). The yellow lentils and cabbage were phenomenal. Can't wait to go back with the kids, who love Ethopian.

This is the best Ethiopian food I've ever eaten - every bite was delicious. Staff was incredibly warm and lovely, and the artwork on the walls provides a vibrant and beautiful aesthetic too. They serve a delicious Ethiopian beer called Negus that every beer lover should try! Highly recommend this restaurant!
