Sacred Grounds Cafe is a small stand inside St. Matthew's Lutheran Church in Southwest Waterfront. It's open every day from the morning through the afternoon and staffed by the nicest people. They brew fair trade coffee from Rise Up (a Maryland based roastery) and desserts from Honey's Desserts. There are a few single high tables nearby. Despite having wifi, they don't have any outlets so make sure your computer is fully charged before you go.I went on their opening day and think they have some kinks to work out. First of all, the credit card reader wasn't working properly causing a long line to form. I ordered a latte and it was only half full (and cost $4) and not very good at all. They didn't have any breakfast foods so people ordered chocolate cake for breakfast begrudgingly. Again, the owners are so kind and hope they work through the kinks. A new coffee shop is welcome in this neighborhood!

Great coffee, quick service, and tasty food! Sacred Grounds is more than a coffee shop. It's a ministry of Saint Matthew Lutheran Church that helps support services for the residents of Southwest Washington, DC. The coffee you get here will cost the same as anywhere in Washington, and you'll be doing something decent for your neighbors with every sip you enjoy.
