Roux Diner

A really good friend of mine has been to this establishment and invited me out for brunch. Since he's making a transitional move from Chicago and won't be able to enjoy all the delicious food that we have. According to him he enjoys the food here and I have to agree with him. Everything was cooked to order and arrived to us nice and hot I ordered the catfish which came with fries, cold slaw, and a lemon wedge to add extra flavoring to the fish which was delicious there was also a sauce for it but I'm uncertain what it was however it was rather tasty. My friend had their shrimp and grits which he ranted and raved about and to no surprise he indulged and left nothing behind just like myself. So on my next visit (yes like Erykah Badu says next lifetime although I won't wait a lifetime lol). I certainly will have to try the shrimp and grits So if you are ever in the area or coming to Chicago for a visit I not just suggest but recommend to stop by and enjoy some amazing food

Great food, friendly staff & a pleasant atmosphere- what more could you ask for? I haven't had a beignet that good since New Orleans.

The food at Roux is always amazing. In addition to the great food, the service was also great. I love that there is a station setup that has water, napkins, condiments, and to go containers so you can get them at your leisure instead of having to ask a waiter/waitress for those things. I'm on a quest to try every dish on the menu, so I will definitely be back.

First time visiting. There was a wait to enter, but the line moved quickly. I got the Brisket hash my wife got the mushrooms bacon cheese omelet. We also got Beignets and a cinnamon roll to go. We will be back to try other items on the menu.

The food here was amazing. The service was great. Everyone was extremely nice and facility is very clean.

They should mention on the menu eggs and grits are cooked with chives. I have an onion allergy.

You order at the counter but your food is delivered to your table. Both the shrimp and grits and the fried catfish were excellent. Just wished the catfish had more slaw and fewer fries. The dining room is conversation friendly and has appealing, homey decor. Will definitely come again.

It's a wait in line, order and sit situation which works very well. The chicken and waffles was awesome, and the cookies was good too. Food came out super fast.

First time visiting 3/31 and first… the place is super cute. Simple, but gives me NOLA vibes with the decor. I came to grab some food and catch the vibe - and do some work. I probably won’t be back with my laptop to take meetings because it’s super loud in here. Like the music is loud! Other than that, I like the atmosphere. The reason for the (-1) star is because the young lady cleaning the tables could have done a better job. And apparently they’ve removed the Chicken and Waffles from the menu - and that’s all I wanted. I had the eggs and shrimp & grits. Which were ok. It’s not my go-to dish but the menu is limited, so I just picked something because they didn’t have any other non-pork meat options. The shrimp were great, but I’m a sugar-grits person so the grits were just ok. I would have liked more of the sauce/roux that came with it to give the grits more flavor. The to-go menu is also an abbreviated version of their full menu, so don’t come in expecting to take home either of the dishes I had.

I enjoy the atmosphere and the ease of the ordering process. This food is like a hug from your down south grandma, full of love and butter!

My response to the owner, I understand your point about the freshness of the food. But is that not the case for all restaurants that they want to serve their food at the peak of freshness. But to be honest with you waiting in line for food or some items missing on the menu are standards to be expected in the restaurant industry. The thing that made me decide not order and experience your food was that I would pay a premium price for menu items (which is not an issue for good food) but then to be told we will bring the food to you in the open and then you would need to wrap it up yourself. No matter how you try to explain your process that is not acceptable for any restaurant. I have never heard of this or actually seen this in practice before. This not a sanitary practice by no means, now more than ever due to COVID19 This is something that needs to be addressed by your management team as well as the City of Chicago. Thank you! --------------------------- Food may good, I would not know because I did not order. Reason I did not order all items are not available for online purchase so what purpose does online ordering serve. Then you stand in line place an order, pay premium price, then you have to box your own food. I would not order and advise no one else to order. Total lack any form of customer service. I have never seen anything like this. Your food may be good but not good enough to make up for the lack and total disregard of customer service in any form.

I throughly enjoyed Roux! We went on a Saturday morning around 9ish and although there was a line, we were seated right after ordering our food. We were sitting maybe 10 minutes before our food came out. Can’t complain there. We tried the famous cinnamon roll with cream cheese icing…omg. It was delicious and soft and warm and everything. Husband had the sausage, egg and cheese biscuit which he loved and a side of grits with cheese. The grits can be made in a number of ways; add cheese, mushrooms, bacon, or gravy or all of them! I had the shrimp and grits which was also tasty and flavorful. The space was clean and bright with a nice playlist. I look forward to going back for dinner!

It's not too crowded and simple, and the service was convenient. They were nice and helpful

Well located on one of the main streets through the Hyde Park neighborhood of Chicago, it has a quaint, New Orleans like vibe with indoor and outdoor patio seating. You order at the front register, get a number, and sit down. The food is brought to the table without delay. There are a number of options on the menu for vegetarians. The biscuits are amazing as are the grits--very creamy! I have met there twice for lunch with friends. It's a good place to just get together with small tables that can be put together for larger parties.

I enjoyed my food here. I had the chicken and waffles and grits w/cheese. The esthetics is lovely as well as the music that was played
