Rice Paddies Grill

Visited on Saturday afternoon with vegetarian friends. Shrimp summers rolls, and crispy spring rolls were good. Friends loved the vegan lemon grass chicken, and vegan flaming beef. Another friend ordered the grilled shrimp and scallops, he liked it. I got the chicken curry....it was ok, not much too it, small amount of chicken and a few pieces of potato in broth style curry. I would go back for the vegan entries, I tasted them both and liked them both alot. Bonus points...the young lady taking our orders, she is also the cashier was very sweet.

First impressions are the restaurant could use a good cleaning and fresh paint. There was a funny smell. Onto to the food. The summer rolls weren’t fresh. The lettuce were visibly old with brown discoloring and had a bitter taste. In contrast the egg rolls were delicious. The beef pho broth was tasty and I would consider above average in flavor and taste. However they were skimpy on the meat. I would say the amount was not worth the price.

I really enjoyed the Pho, but I do wish that there was a wider variety of options on the menu. Also, the front is a little small and it’s hard to understand where you order and where you sit. The soup is really great, the only reason I’m giving 3 stars is due to it being a bit hard to navigate, the menu is a bit small and I wish I could add things to my soup instead of all veggies being added for me.

I certainly enjoyed their dishes and service, awesome area very close to my home. The employees are always friendly. Will come visit again.

The kitchen closes at 8:30, but they were sweet and waited for me to get there and meet my friends. I had the caramelized chicken rice noodle bowl, which was very good! The chicken was "like teriyaki". Prices were good for large portions, and the dish was a playful mix of rice noodles, crunchy vegetables, and chicken. Parking wasn't great, they only have 8 spots, so I just parked around the corner. I had a really nice time and would definitely go back to get the pho. The menu was a bit small, but if everything is as good as the rice noodle bowls, that shouldn't be a problem! The Thai coffee was well blended and sweet but not too sweet.

Speaking for take-out only, Rice Paddies Grill has some of the best Pho in the area. While they do not have a lot of competition in the Bethesda/Chevy Chase area, the Pho soups are excellent and the broth is delicious, savory as expected with a hint of sweetness. One thing they do not offer is a traditional Vietnamese pho menu (e.g. Pho Tai Nam) should you be interested in tendon, tripe and other meat options in your Pho soup. I like the funky stuff every once in a while so I reserve that for trips to Eden Center or Sterling. For weeknight take-out, the Pho here is excellent.

Came out to lunch here with a girlfriend and kids. The Pho was good and the spring rolls were also good. They have a nice variety of juice with unlimited refills.
