Plaza Mexico Retaurant & Cantina

Honestly pretty rough overall. Very confused how many 5-star reviews this place has. I can safely assure any readers of this review that no Mexicans were consulted in the creation of this menu. Everything just felt cheap and underwhelming. The majority of ingredients were very likely from a can or frozen and the presentation (aside from skillets) is appalling. The dishes really look bad when brought to the table. So much about good food is visual, that when a plain, goopy-looking dish is dropped infront of you, the experience is immediately starting poorly. Conversely, the staff were very friendly. I just didn't have the heart to say it was pretty disappointing when they asked how everything was.I would give it three stars, but the price they charge for average-at-best food bumps it down to 2.

I fell in love with the place, the lovely owner and the food in particular. It's authentic and has a strong home-made feel to it. Out of 5 days spent in the city, I went there twice although it meant a little detour both times and it was totally worth the way.Considering it's located in the city centre, the prices are reasonable, especially when you consider the value for money. I will definitely be coming back for more!
