Otaru Sushi Bar

Otaru was my first experience with an Omakase. I thought the experience was phenomenal. The sushi was very fresh and so delicious. The staff was very friendly and cared about our experience. I recommend Otaru to anyone who is looking for sushi in the New Haven area.

This is a truly extraordinary and excellent restaurant. The quality and variety of the sushi could not be better and the staff are kind, helpful, and very knowledgeable. A meal at Otero is always a memorable experience.

This place is going to become world famous. The staff is professional. Service was great and attentive. The chef is amazing at his craft. The overall experience is awesome and different then anything in New Haven. And lastly the sushi is amazing!!!

Otaru is hands-down the best sushi in CT and worthy of comparison to high end places in NYC. If you are a sushi lover and haven’t visited Otaru yet I implore you to go ASAP. 70 of 71 5-star reviews don’t come out of nowhere.We love Sonny and his wife!

Most authentic sushi I’ve ever had in the US.

Hands down one best sushi places I've ever been to (including NYC). The price tag matches the quality but it's well worth it. The chef Sonny (Sunny?) has this special technique of lightly blow torching the top of certain fish, which really brings out some unique flavors and scents you normally don't get with sushi. He apparently also personally drives to Queens to get fish fresh from special markets 3 times a week, so always ask him what's best that day.

Very disappointing. The two stars are for the attentive service because the quality of the sushi served at lunch (prepared by the apprentices) is mediocre at best. Garden variety sushi selections.

Excellent sushi experience. I have long been waiting for a quality sushi place to open in New Haven and this place truly delivers. The Omakase was delightful albeit a pricey experience. If you are not open to spending too much try one of their specialty rolls; the black cod roll was the best roll I've ever had. Highly recommended place!

My friend and I happened to wander into Otaru as we were passing by. Delicious food and the kindest staff! Highly recommend.
