Original Oyster House

Let me tell you, I LOVED this place since my mom took me there as a kid. When I moved out of town, my first stop in and last stop out was this place. I stopped going three years ago because the food wasn't good anymore. I went today with my birthday coupon. Fish was good but the recipe is not the same as in the past. Sides were good. the bald guy behind the counter was arguing with an elderly gentleman about paying for an extra container of ketchup. Then he had a really smart mouth with me. If he is still working there, I won't be back.

Cash only. Usually love the clam chowder but it's different every time.

Walking around the Square in Downtown Pittsburgh.....we did a Lap and came right back to this restaurant. Chose a seat outside under an umbrella overlooking the crowd and happenings of the afternoon. People were walking to the Pirates stadium. A great place to grab a bite and watch everyone stroll by.

A nostalgic place for me. Grandmother used to take me there more than 50 years ago. Best friend oysters.

This was our first time in Pittsburgh. The place is recommended as a place to go. We tried the fried Oyster sandwich and provolone cheese sticks.They were both great! I think it's too much bread but flavor was good.The provolone cheese sticks were absolutely magnificent!My wife had a Stella on tap which she likes.I had a local brew called iron city beer which I was not impressed with but overall experience was great. Very nostalgic, original tile walls, floors and tin ceiling which has been painted over. Staff was very informative and friendly. FYI IT'S CA$H ONLY!

Walk in here and step back in time.... Don't expect alot but be happy with what you get.... This place is awesome but for all the worst reasons... Food is legitimately good

With a name like Original Oyster House you would think the oysters would be good, nope. I got a shell in mine. Owner said "It happens." I DO NOT recommend getting the oysters...... gross!

We stopped in here for last Summer during our stay in downtown Pittsburgh. We couldn't have been more happy . Our server was attentive, courteous and friendly. It was hot out so I started with a couple of cold Duquense draft beers to go with our order of shooter oysters, a crab cake sandwich, clam chowder, breaded shrimp and breaded oysters. Now we are ready for the Pirate Game tonight. Let's go Bucs!

We don't go here nearly often enough, but when we do we always wonder why we wait so long. The food is amazing, the staff friendly, even the prices are great! If you live in Pittsburgh and haven't been in a while, treat yourself to the best bar-seafood in the city. If you are visiting, don't miss out on this taste of history.

Great food. Great service. Great staff. It's a small establishment that has been in downtown since the 1800's. It has a reasonably price menu, as well.I walked in, sat down and was serviced almost immediately. I was constantly checked on to see if I needed anything. The staff was very personable and accommodating. So what was wrong that knocked a star off the rating? Two things. First, it is a cash only establishment. I can live with that, but would have liked to use a card instead. Second, and more importantly, the Men's restroom only had urinals. There were no commodes. They directed me to the woman's restroom, since I needed a commode.All in all, I would still go back and still recommend it to others.

Service was the absolute best. Thank you Tabitha!! Food was very good. Beer list is lacking, but fine. Prices were surprisingly low for what and where it is.

Was a let down. Thought if something was there that long and known for the crab and oysters it would be good. Crab cakes we're more dough and fillings the crab if any. House favorite hushpuppy thing with an oyster in the middle. Like eating a 1 1/2 think somewhat fried dough ball with a cold oyster in side. Also cash only place.

Amazing old fashioned place with historical visitors.

Super cool place. Once in a lifetime experience, unless you live here. Good beer good people good eats!

We enjoy the fish dishes, in a laid back, older style restaurant. My wife and I picked two different cod platters, so that we could compare. We preferred the deeper brown coated fish, I believe it was the Cod Father. The prices are very reasonable, which is why we return several times a year.
