New York Hot Dogs & Smoothies

Gray's Papaya is such an iconic landmark of the Upper West Side, that nothing I could say could add or detract from the millions of others who cherish this place. Rated "The Best HotDog in NYC" by New Yorkers more times than I can count, GP is a fantastic stop for a quick bite at a reasonable price. Unpretentious, actually completely lacking anything that resembles a seat, GP focuses and delivers on what it does best; amazing hotdogs delivered lightning fast at a low low cost.

From my first dog in 1999 to today, Gray's Papaya has consistently provided nothing but the most delicious, crunchiest, juiciest, most memorable hot dogs in all NYC. Don't hold up the line, order the recession special how you want it and go with the namesake papaya. No matter how you take your dog, take it here, and then make it a part of you. Would and have recommended. 110%.

Excellent hot dogs and really nice variety of drinks. Prices are amazing and quality of food is great. It’s cool place to eat and drink. I tried two amazing drinks of papaya and coconut. Always crowded but service is really good. It in my must go list whenever I get chance to visit New York City....

Best hot dog in New York! As someone who is born and bred here, I can safely say that all the imposters WISH they were Gray's. Do not accept the imitations. Worth the slog up to 72nd! Cheap, filling and fantastic. So hard to get that perfect texture. Crispy outside and just unreal inside. Get an everything. Onions, sauerkraut, mustard and ketchup. Classic New York dog. They've been touted about in movies and the hype is justified. Been getting the recession special since the original recession started. No dirty water dog can hold a candle to gray's. Treat yourself. You've earned it.

Had much better hot dogs in my life. Too much mustard, a small sausage and in general not really good flavour profile. It's cheap though. Is kept alive by the reputation.

This place is more of a nostalgic have to go once while you're in NYC just to say you've been there then it is a place I would recommend a friend to go if they're looking for a good hot dog. This is a good deal if you're broke. But that's about it. I remember it being a lot better but then again I used to be broke and that might have been my perspective lol

It's quick, cash-only, can't go wrong, affordable fast food. I get their sauerkraut, sometimes relish or sometimes onions. Always yellow mustard. Somehow the pungent toppings pair so well with the papaya juice ($1.00 refills). Love the papaya juice.

Very good papaya drink (I think it was milkshake based). The hot dogs are rather small so I highly recommend one of their "deals" that comes with several hot dogs and said milkshake.

Good, but not delicious hot dogs. The hot dogs have an outer layer that cracks when you bite, which is really good, the meat is decent, could've been a bit tastier and a bit less salty. The cheese they give is a cheaper version of cheese whiz, but still tasty. The bun is well tosted, warm and has some flavor, but could be less sweet. I'm giving 4/5 cause I enjoyed it, but to be honest you'll get better beef hot dogs from the food court at Costco.

Iconic hot dog place. I would walk a mile (and I did) for their hot dog. The skin is snappy, the bread is warm and you can't go wrong with the papaya drink.

Service was fast and the food was good. The menu is very simple so there is no opportunity for picky people to hold up the line with complicated orders and ridiculous requests. If you get the 3 hotdog special, make sure you have large hands to hold it all in addition to your drink. Two dogs will be on a small plate and the 3rd dog will be in a separate paper hotdog holder. Of course space it tight, so try to make your way to a counter as soon as you get your food or take it elsewhere to eat. Great place for a quick late night bite.

Simple little stand that maintains the soul of the city NYC promises to be and once was. Perhaps that’s a little too wordy but the point is these are damn good hot dogs and the orange juice is dope.

Gray's never dissapoints when a craving for a simply delicious Hot Dog arises. Only problem is that you can't stop at just 1 or 2. More like 6 or 8 for me. I enjoy every dog as much as the previous one. Sorry about missing pics. The dogs get eaten so fast I can never seem to get a pic.

There is no sign where to order or pick up! You should figure it out on your own. Customer service is so slow or just not willing to do the work. One employee had shed the whole jar of ketchup on me and my son by mistake. The hot dogs were so delicious and yummy. The orange juice was sweeter than it should be.
