Myron Mixon's Pitmaster Barbecue

Best barbecue I’ve ever had outside of the home. Got the half smoked chicken and tried the angus beef brisket. Beautiful smoke rings on both, nice crispy crust/burn marks, and plenty of nuanced flavor. Eat it slow or fast. The taste is conducive to slow, deliberate mouthfuls. The texture allows, if you choose, to chow right down. Every table comes with 3 sauces which encompass savory, sweet, and acidic. Only con is the premium you pay for Mixon’s renown. Still worth checking out at least once. Make sure to come on Sunday for brunch! You get a special additional menu selection including one dollar mimosas!

Some say this is the best BBQ in the Washington, D.C. area. If you have never tasted BBQ from Austin, Texas or from Pecan Lodge in Dallas, you may think it is. It's certainly among the best BBQ in the area, but if you have a high bar, it may leave you wanting something else.The space itself is pretty big. It's in Old Town Alexandria so expect to park on the street. I went with two friends on a Saturday evening and it took us a bit to find parking. The wait for a booth was 20 minutes. The menu is large. They have tons of meats, sides, sandwiches, and desserts. The cornbread was GREAT. My pulled pork sandwich was okay as was the mac and cheese. I did enjoy the ribs! They also have a bar with seasonal beers and cider on tap.
