This place is legendary and hyped by countless famous people. Allow me to separate the legend and hype from reality. Mr. Bartley's Gourmet Burgers is living on past glory. That is if they ever even had any. They have shoehorned so many tables inside this small space it is like eating in a High School cafeteria. I had the “SECRETARY OF STATE WILLIAM GALVIN†Not a bad 9 dollar hamburger. The only problem was they charged me $13.75 then wanted 1 dollar extra for BBQ sauce. You remember in Pulp Fiction when Travolta could not believe that a milkshake cost 5 dollars? Well, here they call them Frappes and get 9 bucks for them. I will say that the homemade onion rings were the highlight of the meal.

The food was great and the service was better. Even though it has been around for a long time, they act as if they are new with burgers named for people in current events, I had the Andrew Yang. The onion rings were excellent. Fun place to go. Lots of famous people sat there.

After a tour of Harvard, we came here for lunch on the recommendation of our tour guide. We got there on the early side, and it was a good thing, because by the time we left, it was packed. They have funny names for sandwiches and wraps, and a lot of famous people have eaten at Mr. Bartley's. They make fun of politicians and current events in the menu descriptions, but it's okay, because they make fun of everyone. The food was solid, and they gave us generous portions. My husband and I had The Northeastern, which was a turkey sandwich with bacon. They piled the turkey on. We had more than enough french fries. Our son got a cheeseburger, which he enjoyed. The service was okay, nothing extra special. The prices were reasonable for a burger / sandwich joint in Cambridge Massachusetts. I would definitely recommend Mr. Bartley's.

Funky and irreverent place. They take their food seriously, but everything else is straight-up fun.

I came in expecting a classic, but what I got was even better. The quality level on this place is so much better than you might assume from it being an institution in a college town. Fresh in house ground chuck means you can order your burger as you like it (I went medium rare), and the toppings on the burgers are really well done. Staff are also fantastic and genuinely helpful.

The cooks touch raw meat without washing there hands or wearing gloves / then take raw bacon touch it put it on the grill cross contaminate and broadcast your business on TV why doesn't the cooks use there bare hands to make the macaroni & cheese when making it instead of utensils and touch the hamburger buns with bare hands

Best burger I have ever had in my life.

Classic Harvard Square burger spot. The food is great, as is the service. The burgers were obviously the best part but the French fries and onion rings were also great and worth mentioning. There is no alcohol served here sadly. It’s a small place with tight seating so be prepared for that. You should also be prepared for some great food, what an awesome spot.
