Monastery Restaurant

Made a reservation for Mother's Day. This place is beautiful, from the decor to the food. The dim lighting and candle light gives you the perfect ambiance. And every dinner meal we had was prepared to the best standard. They have a nice collection of wines to pair with your meal. We chose Bulls Blood from Hungary, absolutely great! And at the end, they gave my mother a beautiful red rose to end the evening. UpdateWe were very happy with the meal and atmosphere here. However they lost two stars at the end of our meal and dessert. First the to go bags were used bags, one was Kroger. Although I'm all for recycling, kinda gross to put customer leftovers and to go desserts in a used bag. Finally, we were very disappointed in the dessert we took to go. My black forest cake was only an inch and a half slice, and my mother's crepes (supposedly filled with fruit) tasted eerily similar to the smucker's jelly I know from childhood pb&j. Very disappointed.

Don't let the exterior fool you. This place has a really quaint and comfortable atmosphere with delicious food. We had the two specials (goose and venison) and both were amazing. I definitely will be back.

This is a very nice, quaint little restaurant. The owner is extremely friendly and the food was fantastic! The wait staff was very friendly and helpful. Definitely recommend to anyone!

Great service, excellent food, quiet atmosphere

Old school food and service which is a good thing. The owner came out and talked with my father in law for a while and our server was excellent. The food is definitely European and is a great change of pace from other restaurants in Norfolk. Desert was also really good. Pricing was reasonable.

The atmosphere was extremely nice and the best part of the meal was the hot, crusty bread and cheese assortment that we were brought before the meal. Unfortunately, one of the orders came incomplete. When we told our waitress, she laughed and ran into the back yelling something to Adolph in the kitchen. The order wasn't corrected, but we figured that the bill would reflect the mistake. Nope. When we asked our waitress about the oversight, she had to think for a moment, then ran back to talk to this Adolph person. We then heard loud yelling and screaming from a man...Adolph perhaps? She came back and had readjusted our bill, but we and the other patrons in the restaurant were shocked to hear this temper tantrum. She apologized for his yelling but this dinner was not worth the high price. Not fine dining at all!!!

The service, the atmosphere and the food far exceeded expectations. Thank you for the wonderful dinning experience on our anniversary!

Ordered Serbian Goulash for main course and Raspberry Dumpling for dessert; both were knocked out of the ballpark! I was promptly seated and was offered bar or table; I chose bar since I went alone. The bar area is much more lit than the main dining area. Lovely violin music was played in the background that added to the already lovely atmosphere. The food was super delicious, the service was excellent, and the atmosphere lovely; I live and travel for places like this........

Been coming here for 20 plus years. Came in from being out of town for a few years to share it with my new husband. Anna (owner and chef) never disappoints! The food was amazing! The service was stellar! The Hungarian goulash is so damn good! Thank you so much for a great dinner on our last night in town! Till next time.. 💋mwah

Completley underwhelming. We tried this place twice and will not be back. Overpriced and unremarkable in both palette and presentation. Avoid Brian, he talks easy to much and doesn't know how to work the espresso machine. At last service was excellent for or second visit, thanks Lauren.

Quaint restaurant with delicious home cooked authentic European food. Husband and I went for a date night. The service was excellent and food was wonderful as well. The chef, who I believe is an owner, came out and checked on us and explained my meal and the proper way to eat it. The other owner chatted with us a bit and showed me around the restaurant. You could really tell they took great pride in their restaurant. We will definitely be back! Recommend!

Wonderful staff great service & the food was fantastic! Everything came out piping hot, good size portions and the bread n cheese kept coming too! Very enjoyable evening!
