I know there's an ongoing difference of opinion on Modern vs Mike's, but IMHO Modern wins on the canolli front. Just much more refined and not overly done. Straight up, Modern wins in my book.

The cheesecake and a few of the assorted pastries were either mass produced somewhere else or their standards have really dropped. Would not wait in line again here.

Fantastic pastry!This place is top notch for any pastry and sweet they offer.Love that they have a place to enjoy their products and a coffee and/or espresso.Get there early to avoid the lines.

Love the lobster tails here! It serves 2-3 people (or me for 3 days if I put it in the fridge). For those unfamiliar- this lobster tail is a flaky pastry with a filling. If you want cannolis then head across the street to Mike’s pastry’s for a variety of flavors. The Modern line moves slowly when out the door so in the summer you might get a sunburn. If you arrive in the North End (Italian area) of Boston too late and they’re closed- head to Bova’s because it’s open 24/7.

Absolutely amazing bakery and pastry’s! We’re from out of town and its authenticity! You absolutely have to come here if you want some amazing goodies! Everyone was friendly, foods amazing, must Boston have!

The cannoli is large and a little too sweet for me. Their almond Florentine cookies are awesome! They have are cinnamon forward which is different. The cream filled lobster tail is nice and flaky. Overall decent pastries. Maybe a tad overpriced compared to other bakeries. I’m giving 3 stars because this place doesn’t take cash. I went in today and had some things picked out and then realized I didn’t have any cash on me! So I went to Bova bakery instead which was a good choice.

Good vibe. Delicious goodies. Price is reasonable. Note that the line (which is usually long during weekends) is for takeout. You can bypass the queue by sitting at the table and eat your dessert...[a waitress will come to take your order]Recently we tried their no-flour pastry which is a ricotta cheese based cream. It is soft. Pretty good.

fire pastry's!!!! Bring cash!! And there will be a line out the door every time! It seems it's the talk of the town and worth the wait and hassle! Incredible variety and options for you to choose.

My husband bought me my dream Birthday cake this past weekend and it truly was a dream! My pistachio mousse cake was heavenly perfection! Thank you so much and he said "the customer service was amazing!" We are longtime fans of Modern but this was the first birthday cake. We'll be back to your amazingly happy bakery! â¤âœŒ

I was hesitant about the line being out the door but I was getting my order in about 10 minutes. So worth the wait too! Their cannoli are the best I have ever had! Highly recommended.

The best pastry’s in Boston by far. Great selection of pastry’s and other deserts. They have a few tables you can sit down and enjoy some pastry’s and cappuccino.

The fresh-filled cannoli shells make Modern the superior pastry shop on Hanover. I liked the old location better, though - the sit-down table service at the new place is a bit much.
