Vantastic food for a very good price

Great sauce, but a bit too much lost in time. Food is better than the ambiance.

Took over a hour to get our food for a party of 10. The stuffed peppers were mushy, you only get 3 baked stuffed shrimp for $20, the spaghetti sauce tasted like chilli. Very disappointed, I had heard good things about this place but I won't go back.

I go there to get spaghetti and mea sauce for my dad and I get some meatballs for myself. My dad liked the spaghetti there and I think the meatballs are good and at a good price. I have to spend $10 there in order to use my debt card. I've gone to the restaurant a few times and it was nice.

Long standing Italian restaurant. Very good food and service. Recommend the half roast chicken and pasta. Full liquor license and booths in the bar area. Enjoy!

Mel's is a decent neighborhood restaurant, but it's not worth getting off of the highway for. While the name suggests a 50's style American drive-in, Mel's is, in fact, a nondescript Italian restaurant on a nondescript Holyoke street. The prices are high for middling quality food. The Veal Saltimbocca was overcooked and tough. The Baked Stuffed Schrod had several large, tasty chunks of well-prepared fish, but almost no stuffing. A cup of Margarita Pizza soup was interesting and tasty. Stuffed Mushrooms were good, but plain. The pasta with meat sauce was a tasty side dish once a generous portion of grated Parmesan was added. The Quadruple Chocolate Mousse Pie is very rich and quite good. It was a little disappointing that there weren't more authentic Italian style desserts on the menu. . Prices seemed high for a neighborhood restaurant. Overall, there are probably better options for an Italian dinner in the area.

Another staple of Holyoke, Mel's offers up old world style Italian food that will probably bring back memories of your grandma. The restaurant itself is a little dated, but at this point it simply adds to its charm. There is a dining area, lounge area with a bar and a pickup window for to-go orders. I have only picked up orders from their pickup window, which has its own entrance on the left side of the building. We enjoy their meatballs and spaghetti sauce with meat very much, meatballs are large and only $1.50 each. At this point, for my family, Mel's has become comfort food.

My friend went years back and found out they used canned dog food in some of their meals and when confronted they told him to leave or they will call the police . The building is run down and gross. Have had friends work there and quit because they where treated badly. Dishes are gross and dirty. And coming from and Italian family the food is gross. Cheap ingredients and over priced. Unless you want to puke don't go there.

I'm a fan, old school Italian. The service was very good friendly staff over all great experience.
