L'Assommoir Notre-Dame

One word at the beginning - this neighbourhood is quite pricey, so do not expect an inexpensive dive if that’s what you are looking for.The meals are quite tasty and there are a couple of options to have meals to share with your family, friends or coworkers. The cocktail list is quite large and pretty tasteful.On the downside, the service can be quite long on a busy evening and the cocktails are quite small - a comment that one can make pretty much about any bar in Montreal :-) I suggest that you make a reservation if you want to eat at peak hours.

A little under-whelming. It looked like a pretty nice place and the bartender was polite. However, the bar top looked like it hadn't been cleaned thoroughly in a while - it was wiped quickly, but had lots of gross build-up around the taps that had been neglected. We ordered a ceasar and a Mexican car crash, and neither were very good. The ceasar had almost no garnish and little flavor, and the Mexican car crash was quite flavorless as well. It also didn't have a holder for the beer on top, so a few seconds after the bartender gave it to me the beer fell into the drink and spilled everywhere. No one seemed to notice or offered to clean it up.

Cool place. I'm solo tonight. Everyone is busy. No conversation but good vibe.

Service staff was friendly and funny. Oysters were good. Présentation was ordinary as was the vinaigrette. The shot of vodka that came with was not watered down which was a plus. Decor was calming. We went on a Sunday at 6:30pm and it had few clients. I would like to return on a Friday or Saturday to see the ambiance.

Situated downtown in a nice district, the resto offers a nice ambience and the bar is very elegant. I had an amazing girl as a waiter. I ordered Steak & Frites however it was Horrible. Unfortunately it tasted like a $3 steak straight out of super C cooked by myself. I spoke to the restaurant and they offered me a desert as a compliment, a Creme Brulee, which was good but they dont use real vanilla for making it, so I mean if you are quite picky or you are used to fine details, maybe this place is not for you.

It is a small place, but the service and the food are amazing. The waitress came several to the table to find out how we were doing.

Wow! Awful service. Some of the patrons around us seemed to be enjoying the staff. Took 10 minutes for the bartender to ask our order, then another 5-10 mins to deliver our two drinks. The bar itself was cool, and it’s in a cool part of the city. Unfortunate that the bartender ruined the place for us.

You cannot go wrong here. Unpretentious and fantastic service. Have made this my go to stop every year for the last 10 years. If Phil is working you are in great hands. Forget your usual and let him make a drink for you based on your preferences. Of the drinks I gave him free reign to choose everyone was a stand out that I would order again. This is a must visit!

Beautiful environment with great drinks. Bartenders are super friendly and have great suggestions for cocktails or drinks based on your taste preferences. It gets really busy on the weekends, which is not too surprising but weekdays are pretty uncrowded if you want to check this place out.

Service is A+, nice and cordial staff. They have a meat platter for 4 people. But its enough to feed 6. It was delicious! Best decision I made that night.
