Lalibela Ethiopian Restaurant

About

Looking to taste unique food in the New Haven area? Our extensive menu features authentic meat and vegetarian Ethiopian dishes that are carefully seasoned and prepared for optimal enjoyment. Ethiopian cuisine is based on an exotic blend of spices both robust and subtle. A part of each entree is the traditional bread called injera. Entrees are eaten by breaking off a small piece of injera, placing it on the stew of your choice, and pinching your fingers together to pick up the amount of food you desire. The New York Times says: "Perhaps it's the hominess of the cuisine, or the ritual of eating with your hands, but the pleasure of sharing these simply prepared, tasty dishes makes Lalibela a lovely place for a casual get-together." Come by today and see what all the fuss is about!

I craved this food for six years! When I finally got back to New Haven, I was happy to find Lalibela Ethiopian Restaurant tastes as good as the first time I tried it. I would highly recommend this to anyone who visits the area! The ambiance was nice, the server was kind and attentive, we did not wait at all, and the food was incredible and there was a lot. I will definitely go back as soon as possible.

Most of the menu is done simply but very well. The only issue I had was with the Beef Tartare dish - it was painfully salty and sour. We couldn't finish one serving between three people. The service was slow as the other reviews mentioned. Our waitress was friendly and polite but was always hidden away.Worth the visit if you're looking for something a little different and have the time and patience.
