Hinoki Sushiko

Weird vibes. Food was okay, but everything else was sorely lacking. I ate upstairs for the omakase menu and felt like cattle on a conveyer belt. The manager stood over watching like a hawk. Should be entertaining guests and engaging in warm small talk. Also for a $180 bottle of sake, please provide a cooler! For 150/pp, I expect much much more.

Some of the best sushi I’ve had in chi. Buttery and thickest cut sashimi and nigiri hands down. Highly recommended

Honestly this place’s manufactured mysteriousness was quite impressive but by the end it felt like we all had Stockholm syndrome. They have about 5 “very exclusive”, “only available upstairs except between 7 pm when our omakase starts until about 930” sushi items of which we sent back the “otoro” and actually enjoyed the Waygu. Their menu is EXTREMELY limited and confusing. If you’re unfortunate enough to be stuck in the awkward situation of eating here I’d recommend the mushrooms and the Japanese eggplant as both were good. Honestly this place is overpriced, overrated and seemingly a little lost.

10s across the board great food, great ambiance, great prices (and happy hour) great service have been here before and will return

Huge fan of Kyoten. Otto proved himself once again with Hinoki. It was worth every penny. The Black Cod nigiri is a must try! Great value. Would visit again!

What an awesome find! We were there for happy hour and the food and drinks were amazing! Such flavorful dishes! Every bite was an umami bomb in the best possible way...it was very memorable. We had an assortment of several small plates and maki rolls. Lamb gyoza and miso butter mushrooms were my favorites, with honorable mention to the karaage chicken and the wagyu sliders. And the cocktails were delicious as well: ume fashioned and the high ball were perfect. And whoever designed the ceiling did a great job: looks amazing. We will definitely be back!

Was this place feuding with their kitchen? Please note this place only responds to positive reviews... It's obvious they are inconsistent currently. Ordered 4 things with the expectation of getting more but was so unbelievably dissatisfied with all 4 we decided to get a "2nd dinner" elsewhere (mushrooms, chicken, yellow tale maki, himachi). Mushrooms were dried out, chicken was just fried chicken?!?!, Maki was low class period., And himachi was fine. We got a few cocktails, the lavendulo was quite good but the old fashioned and dessert bloom were hella sweet and not quite what was described by server. Wanted saki but $100 per small bottle felt aggressive... Despite not eating most things, we were not even approached by service. Waiter ignored us till bill and didn't even try for dessert (probably in our faces since it had been 30min since we saw anyone). Tons of great Japanese spots here in Chicago. This was a birthday dinner and truthfully a huge waste. Very disappointed. Will not try again based on hospitality overall. Support elsewhere. Read the bad reviews. This place is a huge gamble.

Great omakase place for a special occasion. Sit at the bar and do the drink pairing for the best experience.

I don't eat seafood and my companion was pregnant so this review is not of the sushi. That being said, parking wasn't a nightmare (small lot beside the building, so come early!) waitstaff was attentive and great with recommendations, as was the manager (Zack) i only wish we had more time! We will be back.

Just opened. Very good quality fish. Definitely give you a lot of fish. More simple, plain nigiri but they all tasted amazing. Great service and staff. Overall definitely recommend and worth supporting.

I love Kyōten and was excited to try this place. Out of the 18 pieces of sushi, though, only two or three were good and the rest were not great. The fish to rice ratio was off, too much fish (and I love fish), and the rice was bland. So that was a bummer. For the price it’s not worth it yet, but maybe they will turn it around.

A real hidden gem! The service was excellent. Our server Luke was so helpful walking us through the creative menu. The Akami, wagyu sliders, and Gyu Don sliders were incredible. And the decor is stunning. I highly recommend.
