High Horse

My husband and I came here on a whim on Valentines Day and sat at the bar. We were too late for the regular dinner menu so we just decided to have some drinks. They were so good! The atmosphere is energetic, and it was very fun watching the cooks. One of the gentlemen was kind enough to give us some food to munch on while we sat. The bartenders were attentive and the music was good. I enjoyed this spot so much that I just made another reservation for this weekend!

Great fun with a lively dining room. The menu has many unique twists. The barrio corn bread, charred corn and fork & knife Caesar (best Caesar I have had in NC) were outstanding. Also tried the tomahawk steak special served tableside which we split three ways. Was excellent but pricey. The ghosting was our favorite cocktail. Would like to come back when the outside patio is opened and sample more of the small share dishes.

Simply amazing! Our good friend is sous-chef Angel and treated me and the wife to a great experience! We were great by  Chef Katsuji Tanabe, and offered samplings! We truly appreciated the gesture! We ordered quite a few dishes, from the beat salad, or Oyster mushrooms, Ribs, and Bone marrow, and more. Every dish was playful, well thought out, flavorful and plated precisely the way it should have been. From the kool-aid pickle to cut the richness of the foie grass, and the freshness and coolness of the beat salad to cool the pallet down after the rich bone marrow! Raleigh...watch out.. Chef Katsuji Tanabe has brought something challenging,fun,playful and vibrant to Down town Raleigh! Such a pleasure! We look forewarded to the many visits to come!

Everything from the atmosphere to the food/drinks is top notch. Glad Raleigh has another awesome local spot like HH.

Very poor hostess. Our party arrived at 6 pm and ignored us for well over an hour. Very disappointed. Reservations do not help here.Update: once we sat down, the experience was absolutely amazing. The food was great and the waitress was even better. If you don't mind waiting for a table, this place is worth it.

Great place with a cool vibe. Food and cocktails were amazing! Management is obviously on top of their game.

We had the BEST time at High Horse recently! The atmosphere is warm but trendy, the drinks were super fun, and the food was delicious! The corn was easily the best I've ever had! We will definitely be back!

I will return again and again! Lamb was out of this world savory. The dessert was phenomenal. And I was very impressed with the cocktails. Very cool atmosphere, and staff was great! I can't wait to try another meal next time :)

Fantastic! We had the shared plates not entrees and they were all delicious. Recommend the shishito peppers and the bacon wrapped figs. Sweetbreads were a nice surprise. Cocktail menu is really good and a great price. Wine is also very reasonable. Will definitely be returning to try other items on the menu.

Food and drink selection is outstanding. Service matched the menu. Atmosphere is not intimate, but exciting. We dined at 7:30 on a Saturday. The only negative is that the music was too loud for the size restaurant. BTW, do the ice shots and throw the ice at the bell outside. Why not?

We enjoyed the experience, a welcome addition to Raleigh! Thank you to Chef Katsuji for taking time out of your busy schedule to say hello, he was very personable! The staff especially our bartender/ server, Tina was great! The food, atmosphere and staff were all amazing!!! Look forward to going again soon!!!

Wonderful food experience in City Market Square downtown Raleigh. All food is cooked on an open fire grill and the wood smoke..the smell is amazing. Great outdoor patio. Great decor in the dining room- bar area and there is even a fun disco ball and pictures of man candy in the ladies room.

I’ve always had an amazing experience every time I’ve gone to High Horse. Amazing atmosphere, food, and drinks. Also, Chef Katsuji is incredibly talented, and very patient with obnoxious foodie nerds like myself. They just get everything right. Quickly becoming my favorite restaurant in downtown Raleigh. Make sure you try the okra, the cornbread, and the grilled oysters!

We went to High Horse tonight and had a fabulous time. The service was outstanding all around. Our waitress happened to be Sandra who was an absolute pleasure to be around. She was super friendly, helpful, and did an amazing job. The entire staff was fantastic! The atmosphere is very trendy and fun. You cannot help but smile as you look around the place. Now to the most important part: the food. I cannot emphasize enough how fantastic the food was. Everything had a unique and distinct flavor. The presentation was beautiful but most importantly, it was delicious. If you go, I highly recommend the Unicorn red velvet cake. You’ll see what I mean when you get it. We also had the pleasure of meeting the owner, Katsuji Tanabe, who was kind enough to take a photo with us. He was super friendly as well. I highly recommend this restaurant; it was fantastic!!
