For years ago I was one evening in Kyoto to eat at Gion Tanto a dish like a salty pancake...and I'll remember all of my life. Where can I find the receipe? I am from Romania and I want to do at home this kind of food. THANK YOU.

Fabulous experience all around. Wonderful food. Great ambiance. English menu. They were even accommodating to a spirited 2 year-old.

I just want to counter these strange reviews. If you give the place an overall 5-star rating, you simply haven’t had enough food experiences in Japan. We had noodles with shrimps topped with a fried egg. It was good (price quality 3 stars) but had better experiences on the streets. The lady-chief started rushing us, after a good shout out regarding shoes we were not wearing, in the waiting room. We enjoyed seeing the next guest getting her, probably infamous, roast. There was no time for a question. A 30 minutes wait for a 15 minutes dinner. These kind of eating dens should be enjoyed by this order: eat - pause with cigarette and drink - eat again - pause - eat until you are full (this is the true Japanese style). Not the case which is too bad for such a lovely setting. But while reviewing this experience we simply can’t hold our laughs what an insane stubborn woman the lady chief is. I like her. Xoxo
