Gino's East South Loop

I went to the original Gino's East location years and years ago and was excited to go back on my next visit to Chicago. It probably goes without saying that the pizza here is amazing so it is well worth the visit. That said, I was pretty surprised at the price. I mean, it is downtown Chicago, so what should you expect? But still...it seemed pricey to me. By comparison to the original location - I found this location to be more like a sports bar, and lacked the unique allure of its roots. That said, I feel like Gino's East, in the food department, defines Chicago-style pizza.

Pizza is still good. Comes out of oven faster, or so it seemed? A bit fluffier than the normal dough. Lacks the ambiance of the Superior St location but has the same great taste.

I took my kids into the city on Columbus Day, and we decided to go to Gino's for lunch. They'd never had deep dish before, but when the pizza arrived they really enjoyed it, and so did I!This location has big windows in front that they open on nice days, with a bar in the center and plenty of booths and tables. Located a 15 minute walk from Union, it's reasonable to go here on almost any occasion.
