I just don't get it.Way too many details about ingredients, sourcing & backstory from the waiter. I know-- I understand-- it's Traditional Real Peasant Style Italian. Just make it better, OK? Overly described food--totally underwheming.

It was a great place to grab an after dinner drink. The proprietor was very nice and offered some samples of some of his premium salumi. It was fantastic and will def try them for lunch

As we received each dish of the 5 courses he explained what we were getting in the neatest way making the experience totally memorable. They were wonderfully attentive. This was on a Company trip but would enjoy having my Wife and Daughter experience that with me. It was so fun.

I had the OHare burger- burger, Swiss, portabellos, and home fries. Burger was a tad underdone, but very tasty. Great fries.

It's the best place on Federal Hill or in the state of Rhode Island where you can get true Sicilian food that your palate can never ever and will never ever forget they have Alberto has the best wine cellar that I have ever known if you don't go here for dinner you're definitely missing out on something great.

This place is truly authentic Italian! It's even more enjoyable if you understand the language and what's being said by Umberto and his wonderful family! Purely southern Italian cuisine combined with great wines makes for an unbeatable combination!

Another fantastic dinner at Enoteca on Federal Hill. This was our third visit. The host makes you feel welcome as if you are in this family's home. This is a menu-less restaurant. They prepare a unique and authentic 5 course dinner served leisurely so you really enjoy the food at a nice pace. You will not find chicken parmesan here nor a lot of heavy sauces. The menu changes every day and has been different on each of our three visits. Make a reservation as seating is limited but that adds to the ambiance and homey feeling once you sit down. Best Italian restaurant we have ever been to!

By far the best Italian on federal hill! Umberto and Lia do it right, and you immediately feel like part of the family.

What a treat. Such a memorable dining experience. Umberto welcomed us with open arms, 45 minutes after I called to see if he had a table for our family of four. The passion and pride in his and his wife's upbringing and family ties to Southern Italy were apparent in everything from their recommended wine selection to select ingredients that incorporated into every dish. He was an excellent story teller and guide to our "no-menu restaurant" meal and each of the five dinner courses brought out. His wife (the chef) appeared twice herself to clear our plates and check on us. This casual recommendation from another visiting colleague proved to be a culinary and flavorful delight. I look forward to returning here in the future, and next time I will plan ahead and arrive with an empty stomach!

WOW! Just wow. This gem of an Italian restaurant can only fit ~10 people total at a time. You must have a reservation, but if you can get in-- you'll be welcomed with warm, open, Sicilian arms. The owners are an Italian couple who serve up a pre-fixe menu daily and what they've got is what you get (no menu otherwise). Amazing wine pairings from the same región as their family. Such a cozy place. A must try for anyone scoping out the Atwells/Italian scene.

We really enjoyed it. It was like eating at Uncle Mike's only with strangers instead of family (and store bought wine instead of homemade.)

Questions & Answers

$60 per person to eat that does not include alcohol/dessert

Yes

Difficult the first time. My suggestion is to walk in one afternoon when they open at 5:30. Speak with Humberto and make a reservation for a future evening in person. Then if you enjoy your dinner make another reservation after you finish your meal. Again in person. We have been doing this now for a couple of years. We make a new reservation about 3 months out.

Across the street to the left.

Enoteca Umberto is closed Sundays & Mondays.
