Eastgate Cafe

Easy to find, right in the heart of the Art district. I parked my car right opposite the cafe, I guess that was possible only because I came here on my lunch break and traffic was light. I ordered a marinated chicken breast sandwich and sweet iced tea. The ice tea was a rich in raspberry flavor, reminiscent of what I have had in London Soho district and the sandwich, healthy, devoid of cheese and fattening cream. I dare say it was tasteful, sweet... just like the pleasant Serbian lady - Violeta who attended to me. I liked it.

This small cute cafe is amazing. The staff is very friendly. The atmosphere is cozy. The food is tasty. I understand they have entertainment on Sundays. I will definitely go back. Highly, highly recommend this place.

This is the worst restaurant I have ever been to. The ownership is very rude, obnoxious and just plain mean people. They make you feel unwelcome and very uncomfortable A one star rating would be very generous. The food is just plain horrible! The chairs are unsafe, the tables are dirty. Don’t waste your time with this awful place. Hope Oak Park inspectors are doing their job.

They are so creative. Mother's Day take out is superb. the steak is quality.Sides are very organic and delicious. Kudos to you guys!

Have been gone from the area for a couple of years but used to frequent Eastgate with a friend, regularly. Time has been kind to this gem. There has been some nice changes including a full bar. Sunday 6/24, I ordered coffee, spinach soup and the beautiful round banana cake. Everything was delicious. I love the slow feel of the cafe. We opted for indoor seating where it was nice and cool. I always feel as if Im transported to another place where good food is to be savored and time spent with friends here binds you forever. Service was excellent and the food arrived quickly. My friend ordered a pasta dish with a large plate beautifully colored salad.Hid food was a feast for the eyes. Portions were large and looked inspiring. Can’t think of a better way to be welcomed back to the area. What a gracious, lovely place with very good food.

Very good food. In a cozy atmosphere to have lunch or dinner. Enjoy jazz on a weekend evening or a Sunday afternoon

This place is ran by the owners who also are the cooks and (very friendly) servers. The menu of the day is usually limited to a few dishes BUT it serves as a good analogy about quality vs quantity. "Eastgate", the lady is from Serbia and her Serbian dishes are as traditional as it gets, along with more European dishes that make their way to the European West. Some dishes may have her twist which she will explain to you. They also have live music, not sure when (check their Facebook page) and it's a very intimate endeavor. I was lucky to be there by mere chance on an acoustic night, it was 99% Irish songs because of St. Patrick's day approaching. The dishes are made fresh and you may even get extra servings if closing time is near. This is one place I'd recommend to visit if you live in the area and also if you like to leave your neighborhood now and then for a change.

I had one of the most incredible experiences here, I highly recommend it! The owners are awesome and a pleasure to talk with. In addition, the meals are delicious and affordable.

A cozy place for a single or a couple and even a group. Nice owners, friendly atmosphere and some surprises along the way (evenings of music, open mikes and wine and painting). Stop by and you might imagine that you are in a European cafe. You won't be far off.

Great place to come for cozy intimate settings. Very relaxed and comfortable . Pulled pork was great !!
