Any place that has an hour wait for fries certainly needs deliver a quality product, and this place definitely proves why there is a wait. Everything we had was delicious from the parsnip soup to the vanilla milkshake. The poutine was definitely the star of the show though, the fries were the crispiest I’ve ever had. Can’t wait to come back to Portland and catch this place again.

The name says it all! Food is really tasty and should be as many items have actual duck fat in them. It's been a while, but the poutine was amazing! Probably not on your cardiologists list to eat here, but every once in a while can't hurt! Not too pricey, some outdoor eating (went in the summer) and nice beers to boot - can't miss, will return.

One of our favorite lunch spots when we hit Portland. Just recently came here for my birthday lunch! Salted Carmel Milk Shake (thick enough the spoon stays up straight, local brews, real poutine (and amazing) and a great duck panini. This is a meal for at least two!

Wow! My favorite place I tried in the old port so far. I wish they had more beer on tap but all of the food was amazing and fresh. Try duckfat if you are in the area. It will not disappoint.

This place almost always has a wait cuz it's very small and you end up getting sit next to strangers. They make up for this with pretty good food.I prefer the Belgian fries cooked in duck fat over the poutine. tried both and I just don't like the sogginess of the poutine fries. Definitely preferred the crunch of the poutine fries.Recommended dipping sauces are the garlic Mayo, Thai chili mayo, and the truffle ketchup. As for the milkshakes also very delicious. I couldn't decide between the cookies and cream and the mocha milkshake. they were nice enough to do a combo between the two.Definitely recommend trying this place. Avoid the rush times.

Amazing Fries and Milkshakes!! Don't order a panini it's overpriced and feels like a Panera Bread panini.

Good. I think maybe SLIGHTLY overrated. Back in the day I think Duckfat REALLY was a staple of Portland, however now with the abundance of good places to go I think they have diminished slightly. Parking was tough and I had to wait an hour for 1 seat on a Sunday. The food and service was good and the beer selection excellent but I had to sit in between 2 parties which was a little awkward. Definitely still worth going if you are in the area!

Best shakes ever! If you like blueberry, try it. That’s my wife’s favorite. I had the classic one which was great too.

Crispy, tasty fries! The Poutine is simply amazing and the fries go very well with that truffle ketchup. Fries are a bit heavy on the salt, but only if you are used to Low - salted foods. Simply wash it down with some of their very good beer ;) The staff is friendly and helpful, the interior looks good, too.

Though it can sometimes be tough to get a seat, its always worth the wait and we always have a wonderful experience. The staff are always very friendly and professional. I also must say how impressed I always am with the way in which they interact with each other - they function as a true team and always seem to be helping each other out. A big thanks to Cece (I hope I spelled your name correctly!). She's been there the past few times we've been in and for whatever reason her friendly personality and smile just makes our experience that much better! I guess this review should also include something about the food, right? Well, to keep this succinct I'll just say...it's all amazing! Seriously, you can't go wrong with whatever you choose. Every menu item is made to perfection with amazing combinations of ingredients and I can't imagine how anyone could ever be disappointed. Great job, Duckfat! Keep it coming, and we'll of course keep on coming!

Small but great ambiance. Very friendly staff. Greeted right away. If there's a wait they have a buzzer with a map of how far you can go. So you can go nearby for a drink or snack. The charcuterie board is a must. Their homemade duck bologna was delicious.

We got there 30 min before open and there were already a dozen people waiting. Once we had our first bites we could understand why. Brave the line and be rewarded.

Best poutine in the world (or gravy/disco fries) for those of you less in the know :) The fries are to die for, the sandwiches and shakes are amazing! If you are from Portland, you already know Duck Fat! If not, definitely make it a stop! Well worth the visit!

Questions & Answers

Voted Best Poutine multiple times in the past 15 years! We make our duck gravy from scratch with roasted duck bones. Our cheese curds are from a local farm in Maine and our fries are true Belgian style, fried in duck fat. Choice of local farm duck egg, chick egg or duck confit on top.

Hi Patti, Thank you so much for taking the time to reach out! My husband Rob and I have owned Duckfat for 14 years and appreciate all feedback from our guests. We carefully considered adding the 10% service charge for to-go orders. This service charge enables us to provide prompt, professional service to all our guests, both in-house and to-go, and is shared equally between our kitchen and serving staff. Sincerely, Nancy Pugh

In theory. It's a small space and the wait could be long. Food is worth the wait.

It's delicious!

There is street parking on both sides of the street and surrounding streets as well. The parking lot to the left of the restaurant has all day parking but expensive. Hope this helps.

I sat in the restaurant and ate the poutine...

Yes, but its a very small place so it still can be a bit stuffy
