I had heard good things about Alta Strada, but my experience was not good at all. This is an Italian restaurant that has a big brunch following on Sundays and for good reason - they include booze for a very reasonable price which may be a reason for coming in itself. My issue with the Alta was with the food and service. The brunch menu allows you to order three items including a pasta. I ordered the salad, Brussels and pasta. The salad did not make it until after I was finished because the waiter forgot it. To be fair the Brussels were really good, slightly crispy and cooked just right. However, the pasta which was spaghetti with course pepper was amateur hour. The noodles were something you could buy at the grocery store along with this watery sauce - not at all of fine restaurant quality. If you are going for the booze this may be your place, but if it is for the food and service, look elsewhere..

Full disclosure: I visited here with a first date from hell. This did not help. We ordered the fried artichokes which were well made. Great texture and cooked long enough to bring out the umami flavor -- highly recommended. We also shared a pizza margherita. Big enough for two people. Too salty. I kinda thought the price was too good to be true for this item. I couldn't taste the fresh basil because salty. I would consider going back with better company, but this area has so many good culinary choices so I wouldn't necessarily go unless I was in the mood for it.

Absolutely fantastic experience overall. Top notch food as well. Most delicious Italian food I've had possibly of all time. If it's not at the top of my list it's the second on the list. Would recommend to anyone who loves flavorful Italian dishes.

Great Italian restaurant. The special Lamb dish was out of this world!

Great staff, great food! Higly recommend this place. Only downside was that the “happy hour” said pizza for 7$ and we ended up paying the full 15$ which is a fair price too I’d say. Didn’t ask the waiter why it was the full price cause the pizza was exquisite and I didn’t want to be rude. Great place for authentic italian brick oven pizza!

Went to restaurant week brunch! Our server was so accommodating to our menu altering. Food was great service was amazing!!! Will definitely be back

Alta Strada's kitchen delivers excellent Italian comfort food. The entree prices are competitive, however the appetizer prices are on par with Michelin rated restaurant prices. During our visit the server was not attentive and did not well answer our simple menu questions, including incorrectly describing the house red wine. Given the abundance of Italian restaurants in DC we are unlikely to return.

Just happened to walk by here and decided to try it for lunch. Sunday they only had the brunch menu though. I tried the spaghetti carbonara and the meatball appetizer and they were both great.

Service is some of the best in the DMV. They will happily adjust dishes and work with the menu if you need it. But you shouldn’t; their dishes routinely have unique flavors I feel like I lucked into. Portions are not your normal Americanized “Italian”. They are reasonable and I appreciate that so I don’t eat everything.

I am vegan and asked whether they had something for me in the menu, which they did. But still the sous-chef came out and offered me a special vegan dish only for me and it was delicious. It was the best meal I had in a long time. Plus, the location is super nice and the staff was very friendly.
