The server was too LOUD. The water is tap, unfiltered taste (worst part). Food quality was good, but not easy to find good tasting cilantro/herbs in Alabama. Roast duck is good and heavily seasoned with rosemary, more salt really brought out the flavor.Decent experience that could have been better, if we had a different server. I heard ours having a conversation about fitness centers, and my glass remained empty long enough to remember it.

This is one of my favorite restaurants in Birmingham. The chicken and wine is amazing, the burger is legendary, and the desserts cannot be beat. Dolester Miles, the pastry chef, won a James beard award in 2018 for her creations for this menu. The coconut cake is remarkable, and definitely the most famous, but don’t miss the chocolate pot de creme. The atmosphere is great, and the bartenders are super nice!

First class service and OF COURSE the food was fabulous!

Overall, if you've never been, the food is definitely worth a try. The prices are reasonable, the service is good, and the dining room area was clean.. Ohh and if you're not familiar with the area, parking can be a hassle but they do provide valet. We got lucky with a spot right across the street. We will definitely be back in the future when we have a bigger appetite. I would recommend this place to anyone but just with a little caveat: the staff is nice enough, the seating is limited but the food is always incredible.

Just had the burger...the best in Birmingham, they say. I just might have to agree. The bottom bun was a bit soaked, but the meat was seasoned well & delicious. The fries were pretty good as well.

I simply like their food. I always get good customer service there. The place is clean and the workers are always nice. Would recommend to others.

Delicious meal and great atmosphere!We got there during dinner rush and knew we’d have an hour wait, so we ordered drinks and enjoyed them outside at the concrete table. Service was good, not above expectations. Menu offerings were varied and everything we had was delicious. One of our entrees was an off menu fish. Stick to the menu. If you want quiet, arrive after the dinner hour. The place is loud when full.

My favorite fine dining in bham. Great food, (CHEESE), drinks, & desserts. We love popping in for lunch when it’s less busy. The bar is fun too. The service has been good, not great- they sort of mind their own business while tending to your needs. Definitely worth trying... or frequenting

My favorite side for French foods and Bars. Some of their famous items are Coconut Cake, Croque Madame, Chicken Liver Mousse & Grilled Baguette, Charcuterie Platter, Omelette, Croque Monsieur. Recommended for people nearby. Impressed with their humble service.

Our family enjoyed this restaurant! It is evidently a local favorite as evidenced by the steady stream of customers. There were other families, couples, a wide age variety. The wine choices were outstanding and reasonably priced relative to the quality. The trout was excellent and all of our dishes, appetizers were outstanding. The ambiance was warm, with a golden glow and bustling atmosphere typical of a thriving French restaurant. We hope to come back to Birmingham as we found the city and its people friendly, smart and welcoming.

Excellent service by friendly staff. The chefs are extraordinary and the food superb.

We found this French bistro on a drive to New Orleans. Made sure to dine again on the way back. A red fish special was amazing. The menu trout is also quite good. Bread is a treat. Nice cheese plate as dessert on one visit (could have used a few grapes or something). Good wine list. Very knowledgeable staff.

Wonderful experience, flavorful and creative dishes

Such a fun place! I had the steak frites and hubby had escargot and hamburger. All were wonderful. We will definitely go back!

Chez Fonfon is a Birmingham classic where French cuisine is concerned. Their escargot and chicken liver mousse are the stuff of dreams!
