Brasserie NeL

About

neL Amstelstrav 12 We had been looking for Cafe Jenevre, but it has been replaced with neL. I’m not sure if they ever get American tourists - this was definitely a local place - but comparable to nice local places in the US. It’s located in an open square - there’s a playground near by and a large open patio. The inside is small, but larger than other places we’d seen in Amsterdam. Food was decent - they serve bread before the meal (I only mention this because it was the first time it had happened on our trip!). I had the neL salad, which was good, but very oily (like the olives here, they just drench them in oil). My dad had the burger - we haven’t been overly impressed with any meat on this trip. The Spanish Sauvinaug Blanc was terrible, but that’s not the cook’s fault.
