Billy's Seafood will be happy to ship to your friend. They can call the office, 251-949-6288, for more information. The standard is to ship via UPS, to arrive in 2 days.
Anything frozen should not have a smell. Are you sure your freezer is working properly? If they really have a smell I would not trust them.
Give them a call. They were fantastic at getting stuff shipped out.
Please understand, my wife and I LOVE seafood, especially fresh seafood. Because of this we frequently stop by Billy's (it is about 10 minutes from our home). But, I do not work for Billy's . . . I cannot answer your specific question.
I CAN advise you that they do carry/sell fresh oysters - in the shell, when they are available. I also know, from personal experience, that a "special request" purchase is usually accommodated -- again, based on supply and/or availabity. We have called to check and "order" specific items, twice in larger size or quantities than we customarily purchase, and the "goods" we're ready and waiting for us.
Lately, the oyster sizes and quantities have been improving -- but, again, a CALL to Billy's would be the best approach given your desire for Oysters-by-the-gallon.
I am sorry that I cannot be more definitive.
