Great sandwiches, chili, and cheese. The chili is famous, but was not quite spicy enough for me personally (great flavor though). Had the corned beef sandwich with brick cheese. Did not disappoint in the least. Friendly service and quickly prepared food.

Utterly charming, excellent friendly service, a good local beer list, and cheese sandwiches. What else could you want? For me, it would be perfect if you could pay a little extra to get an aged cheddar as an option for the sandwiches. But this place is basically perfect as is.

The best sausage and cheese store! Seating inside and out. Great staff, ask them what their favorite is and give it a try, you won't be disappointed because it's all good!

Good place to grab basic, but delicious sandwiches and chili. They claim it's the second best chili in the world. Why? Because your mom makes THE best chili in the world. Give the wait staff a dollar and they'll throw it on the ceiling for you. At the end of the year they take the money down and give it to local charities. Last year they donated over $7,000.Before you leave, make sure you buy a jar (or two) of their homemade mustard to take home with you.

Everyone is so friendly here! Great relaxed atmosphere from the bar/restaurant to the cheese store. Bathrooms are clean and renovated. Interesting murals painted on walls and funny bar signs. While menu was lacking variety, mostly sandwiches, brat or chili, everything was delicious and reasonable prices. Good local craft beer selection. Huge cheese selection in the cheese store again with reasonable prices. And they will give samples or cut cheese to your requested size of a half pound or more.

Love this one. We popped up for St. Patricks day weekend to get away from the city and this was our first stop. Perfect spot to sit down, grab a brew, and a very simple but delicious cheese plate - highly reccomend the mustard. Easy conversations with not only the staff but locals as well. Will definitely be stopping by again.

Very welcoming staff. The food was decent but not fantastic. I would still recommend this place as a solid place to go to in Monroe Wisconsin.

Nothing super special but really fantastic! The chili was excellent and the ham and swiss sandwich was second to none. I really liked the decor and the ambience as well. Definitely recommend checking this place out.

Went to Monroe for an afternoon just to get out of the city after work and visit one of our favorite cheese store's while we were there we stopped at Baumgartner's for an early dinner before heading back to Madtown it wasn't busy and we got a table in the bar area and we were waited on promptly as always. My lady had a cheese sandwich and a bowl of fish gumbo while I had there excellent 2nd best chili and a hot roast beef sandwich everything was great as it should be at a great old place. If your in Monroe and go downtown Baumgartner's is one of the places you should stop.

This is one of the best cheese sandwiches I've had in my life, with a fun quirky interior, hopeful wait staff that made ordering quick, as well as letting us try a sample before ordering. Delicious options and a great representation of the state's artisan cheeses. A great place to drop by if you're traveling through.

On the CheapWalked into this little tavern for a quick bite. Thank goodness for being a single tourist because the bartender found a spot for me at the bar despite the crowd. I noticed the patrons having fun with hoots of laughter as attempts to throw money on the ceiling and make it stick kept the joint hopping. (The money goes to charity)The menu is very simple; cold sandwiches to the left, hot ones on the right. They claim to have the 2nd best chili in the world. I went for a cup of tomato and basil soup that had what I believe was ravioli in it. Either way, it was very good. Later I added a soft salami and thick Swiss cheese sandwich which is made on Rye bread. When the waitress suggested that I use the Sweet and Nicely Hot Mustard (yes, that's its name) I was skeptical. Oh, my goodness. It gave the sandwich the right amount of kick to chow it down with delight.Overall: This was so worth the stop after visiting the National Historic Cheesemaking Center.
